Onion Knight

Replaced the inferred FINAL FANTASY III pairing with the pairing now printed on the official character page, added a series-entry row, dated the Resonance negative
Onion Knight is one of the legacy Visions in Final Fantasy Resonance. Square Enix confirmed the character on August 17, 2026, in a short official video that introduced him as a Vision, and the official Japanese character page now lists him in its FINAL FANTASY III slot.

Square Enix says players can battle alongside Onion Knight, resonate with his Vision within the Sanctum of Light, and unleash his abilities in combat. Official material published in August 2026 added a profile and a kit.
He is described as a young man whose life changed forever when a simple excursion led him to a crystal, which granted him his calling as a Warrior of Light. In battle he casts Fire, Wind and Earth magic that deals more damage the more the limit gauge is filled.

The producer described the roster as sixteen legacy Visions, one for each numbered title from FINAL FANTASY I through XVI, and Square Enix now publishes those pairings itself. The official Japanese character page carries a sixteen-slot sprite gallery in which every slot is captioned with an entry title and a character name, and Onion Knight's sprite is captioned FINAL FANTASY III. The pairing no longer rests on the shape of the roster or on his being that entry's usual representative: it is printed. As of 12 September 2026 that gallery holds exactly sixteen slots, with no seventeenth.
Legacy heroes' vision crystals wait inside the sanctums scattered across the world, and stepping into one lets you revisit a story from the original game before claiming the Vision. Every Vision is earnable in-game with no DLC, each powers a unique Resonance attack, and abilities learned from one stay equippable while a different Vision is active, within the cost limit covered at Abilities and Mastery. As with every Vision, the kit is designed from zero for this game, so nothing from the original title carries over. For the full roster of named Visions, see List of Visions.
