Edge of Memories is developed by Midgar Studio, a French studio based in Montpellier, and published by Nacon. It was revealed in February 2025 with a Fall 2025 window, slipped into 2026, and is now scheduled for December 3, 2026. Along the way the studio changed engines, ran a public demo and worked with several outside collaborators on story, character design and music.
Midgar Studio was founded in 2008 by Jérémy Zeler-Maury. Nacon acquired 100% of the studio in February 2022. Its previous games are Edge of Eternity, released in 2021, and Hover. Official figures on team size differ: a May 2025 developer post described a team "of almost 40", while the studio's own site says "some thirty".
The game runs on Unreal Engine 5. A June 2026 developer update said the studio switched from Unity, which it had used before, to Unreal for this project, and a developer reply in February 2025 said the game uses the engine's Lumen and Nanite features. The same June 2026 update said the combat system was built entirely new (see Combat).
Asked about it in June 2026, a developer said the game does not use generative AI.
