11 The Abyssal Dragon is the player character of Dinghai: The Ocean Pillar, named Xuanlong in the game's Chinese and Japanese material. He was once the strongest commander serving under Emperor Yan. After the Battle of Banquan he was stripped of his name and cast into exile, and he fell in the campaign known as Jueditiantong. For centuries after his death only a sliver of his soul survived, wearing away through hundreds of years of despair.

33 Through a forbidden curse, he seizes a new body, that of Yi, and returns to the mortal world, carrying the weight of unfinished business and a regret that even death could not bury. His return sets the events of the story in motion. He is described as returning determined to settle the enmity of his fate with his own hands, and uncovering what became of the vanished flood hero Yu is part of that journey.
