Earlwood Village is the first place the player sees of the outside world in Dimraeth, and it stays the centre of the game through the opening act. The developers describe it as a quiet seaside settlement at the edge of the continent. It anchors the first act, it is where recruited allies live, and it is where crafting, storage and shops sit, so the loop of the early game is to go out into the wilds and come back.
It was also one of the first regions built. The developers have said Earlwood was among the earliest areas made during early development, and the archive of release posts backs that up: the Earlwood map was reported complete on 6 August 2023 and the area has been rebuilt and extended repeatedly since.

Position in Mirkea
Earlwood stands on the border between the Human Kingdom of Aldoria and the Eternal Forest, home of the elves. That position is the reason for everything else about it. It is not fully inside either power, and the Wildwood that sits beyond it answers to neither.
The village was founded roughly three centuries ago as a single homestead and grew into a refuge for people cast out of their own lands. Minotaurs, Elves, Dwarves and Humans live there together, bound, in the developers’ phrasing, not by blood or crown but by circumstance. The design post is blunt about the tone this produces: "Earlwood is a town of outcasts, of those seeking a second life. That fragile kind of community carries its own quiet beauty." Most of Mirkea remains split along old lines; Earlwood does not.
The Village at the Player’s Arrival
Earlwood is not in good shape when the game starts. Fear has gripped the town, most quarters are sealed, and the guards allow no one through. The Guild Hall Quarter is the exception: it remains open, and it works as both a refuge for the displaced and the village’s last hope of defence. That quarter is effectively the playable footprint of the village at the opening of the story.
The Guild Hall
The Guild Hall is the hub building. It was added as a structure in July 2023, rebuilt as a dedicated building in June 2024, fully implemented into the environment in July 2024, and had its interior and surroundings reworked through late 2024 and 2025.
Its known fittings include a stash chest for storage, a quest board and map table, an armoury area, and a poker table added in January 2025 that other players can join. Alaric was placed in the Guild Hall in August 2024, and Eldorian greets newcomers there.
People and Services
Allies recruited into the settlement set up in and around the village, and investing materials in their facilities expands what they offer: wider shop inventories, additional crafting services, more farming plots. The table below lists the residents and service points that have been named first-party.
Resident or service | What they provide |
|---|---|
Minotaur blacksmith of Earlwood. Runs the village forge, which handles equipment upgrading. | |
Travelling merchant whose caravan sits in the village. Has a workbench as well as goods. | |
Enchanter specialising in magical banners. Her shop was added in October 2024. | |
Young Elven adventurer who greets newcomers arriving at the Guild Hall. | |
Legendary folk hero, placed in the Guild Hall. | |
Exiled forest spirit who lingers at the forest edge rather than in the village. Teaches and sells the Seed Bomb spell. | |
Real Estate NPC | One of the original service roles added in August 2023, alongside the Training Hall Monk, Tavern Singer, Balloon Keeper and Fisherman. |
Shops | Equipment, crafting and potion shops were added in October 2023. Essential items can be bought from NPCs at a premium, which keeps crafting optional. |
Guild Hall stash | Shared storage in the Guild Hall. A wider storage system of chests and safety deposit boxes was added in October 2023. |
Bank | Town bank accounts date to July 2023 and a dedicated bank scene was added in December 2023. |
Buildings and Facilities
Earlwood has been filled in building by building over the course of development. The dates below are the months the developers reported each as added, and are a record of construction rather than a guarantee that every one is in the Early Access build in its 2023 form.

|---|---|
Blacksmith | July 2023 |
Monastery | July 2023 |
Tavern | July 2023 |
Guild Hall (structure) | July 2023 |
Medieval town houses | July 2023 |
House interior | August 2023 |
Training Hall | August 2023 |
Harbour and sailing ship | August 2023 |

A tavern card game was introduced in February 2025, separate from the Guild Hall poker table. A Training Hall Monk staffs the training hall, and a Balloon Keeper runs the hot air balloon service that reaches the islands. See Regions and Locations for the areas those routes lead to.
The Earlwood Peninsula and Its Art Direction
The village sits on the Earlwood Peninsula, and the shape of that coastline is a deliberate art-direction decision rather than generic fantasy scenery. The team works to three stated environment pillars.
Pillar | What it means in practice |
|---|---|
Unique Visual Identity | Every area should be recognisable as itself rather than as interchangeable fantasy terrain. |
Immersion | The environment should hold the player inside the world rather than reading as a backdrop. |
Game Design Alignment | Environment art is built to serve how the area actually plays, not separately from it. |
For the peninsula specifically, the art team named three real-world geographic inspirations: the White Cliffs of Dover, Fingal’s Cave in Scotland, and Ghenh Da Dia in Vietnam. All three are coastal rock formations, and the reference is to their form and silhouette. They are stated as visual sources for how the peninsula looks; they are not part of the fiction of Mirkea. The same post mentions the colossal statues of the Old Ones as part of the world’s visual language.
Development History of the Area
The village has been through at least one full redesign and many rounds of expansion.
Date | Change |

6 August 2023 | Earlwood map reported complete. |
30 October 2023 | The area was redone "to have a better design layout", the one explicitly stated redesign. |
June 2024 | New Earlwood Village music; Guild Hall building added. |
July 2024 | Guild Hall fully implemented into the environment; Earlwood visual updates. |
August 2024 | Earlwood NPCs and a questgiver NPC added. |
November 2024 | Earlwood Forest East, South and West zones added; the village re-concepted. |
December 2024 | Earlwood Forest updated and expanded. |
January 2025 | Earlwood Village environment changes; Guild Hall ambience music. |
February 2025 | Earlwood scene overhaul. |
July 2025 | Guild Hall outside environment updated. |
The developers spelled the village "Earlywood" once, in an April 2025 fix line. Every other reference across three years uses Earlwood, so that is treated here as a typo rather than an alternative name. An earlier starting map called Newthcreek appears in two posts from 2023 and then never again; it is covered on Development History rather than here, because the developers have never said it was renamed to Earlwood.
The Village in the Game Loop
Through the first act the player returns to Earlwood often. The developers describe the pattern as coming back from forays into the wilds to share discoveries with familiar faces, craft new tools, and prepare for the road ahead, with the village acting as both sanctuary and a continuing thread through the journey. Each return is framed as a pause between the dangers faced outside it.
Relationships with the residents are a system rather than flavour. Deeper relationships unlock new conversations, personal quests and potential romances, and recruited allies become part of the settlement itself. See Characters for the individual figures and Base Building for what investing in their facilities does.
