Monk is one of three classes named so far for Diablo V, and one of the two returning ones alongside the Demon Hunter. Blizzard's announcement post says the Monk "brings martial perfection back to Sanctuary, battering demons to a pulp with fists and calling down holy power to smite those who stand in their path".
Pre-launch article. Diablo V was announced on 12 September 2026 and is scheduled for Spring 2029. As of 13 September 2026 the game has been public for one day, no playable build has been shown, and Blizzard describes it as "still early in development". No skill, resource, skill tree or number has been named for the Monk, and class mechanics were explicitly deferred to 2027.
The reveal
Senior Game Director Joe Shely described the same two capabilities at the panel:
"The Monk will be returning. You'll be able to once again pulpify demons with your fists, and if there are any that are out of range, call down holy light to smite them."
That announcement line and that quote are the entire public record for the class as of 13 September 2026. Two things are described, and nothing is specified:
Fists in melee. Both accounts describe the class beating demons with its fists. No weapon has been named, and whether the class uses weapons at all has not been addressed.
Holy power at range. Shely frames it as the answer to enemies "out of range". Whether that is one ability, a family of them or a passive has not been stated, and no cooldown, number or resource bar has been shown.
This melee-plus-ranged-holy pairing is the only mechanical shape described for the class.
Scope note. The Monk appeared in an earlier game in the series. No resource, skill, armour set or build from that game is Diablo V information, and Blizzard has named none of them for Diablo V.
What has not been stated
Any skill, ability, passive, rune, skill tree or specialisation.
Any resource system, cooldown, stat or number.
Any weapon or armour type. Fists are the only means of attack described. See Itemization.
Class appearance, gender options or customisation.
Where the holy power comes from in the setting, or any story role, including whether the class connects to the Heir to Westmarch framing.
How many classes the game will have in total. See Classes.
Blizzard said after the show that it is "not quite at the stage to detail individual classes and mechanics just yet", and pointed at 2027 for concrete class detail. See Development and roadmap.
