Correct third Abyss Gear effect to '+40% damage to Walkers' (gear name unverified) (2026-04-29)
The Sword of Starlight is a one-handed sword in Crimson Desert that was added in Patch 1.04.00. It is exclusive to Damiane and is awarded by the Scholastone Institute questline after the player registers all 13 constellations with the Constellation Helm. The sword arrives with three Abyss Gears already applied, including the new Celestial Transference (Stamina Siphon) gear that has not been observed on any other weapon at the time of release.

The Sword of Starlight ships at base values and can be improved at any Blacksmith through the standard refinement track. Listed numbers below match the in-game tooltip on a freshly granted copy and on the fully refined upgrade path.
Stat | Base | Fully Refined |
|---|---|---|
Attack | 17 | 27 |
Attack Speed | Level 5 | Level 6 |
Refinement Level | 0 | 5 |
The pre-applied gears are the main draw of the sword rather than its base damage. Players who do not want to keep the sword itself can take it to a Witch and extract the Abyss Gears for use on a preferred weapon. This is especially useful for Celestial Transference, since the gear has not surfaced on any other weapon at the time of Patch 1.04.00.
Slot | Gear | Effect |
|---|---|---|
1 | Celestial Transference Lv. 2 | Stamina Siphon Lv. 2: regenerate stamina during combat under the gear's trigger conditions. Pairs well with dodge-heavy combos and sustained pressure builds. |
2 | Swift III | Increases attack speed by a flat amount on top of the weapon's base Attack Speed level. |
3 | Walker damage modifier (gear name not yet documented) | Grants +40% damage to Walker-type enemies. The exact gear name has not been documented in publicly available sources at the time of Patch 1.04.00; only the effect is confirmed. |
The sword is the final reward of an extended Scholastone Institute questline tied to the Constellation Helm. The full chain is summarized below.
Step | Action |
|---|---|
1 | Progress the Scholastone Institute research questline through What the Stars Left Behind, which awards the Constellation Helm. |
2 | Equip the helm and use its Stargaze active skill to register all 13 constellations across Pywel. Ten of the 13 are reachable through normal exploration; three are gated behind specific faction questlines that must be progressed before the constellation appears. |
3 | With every constellation registered and the Institute chain at its final research step, the follow-up quest Maps of the Night Unveiled appears at the Temple Pagoda in Serpent Marsh near the Gi Jang Temple, south of Demeniss. |
4 | Switch to Damiane. The final quest Where Starlight Converges must be completed on her, even if the rest of the chain was done as Kliff. Constellation registration is preserved across the swap, so no alignments need to be redone. |
5 | Travel to the suspicious-looking stone beside the Temple Pagoda and interact with it. The registered constellations come alive on the stone, the stone lifts into the night sky, and the blade descends from the alignment before the stone shatters and grants the sword. |
The Institute questline can be cleared on any character, but the final reward is gated to Damiane because the Sword of Starlight is restricted to her in the equipment system. Players running the Institute primarily on Kliff need to switch characters before heading to the Temple Pagoda; the quest will not progress otherwise.
The combination of Stamina Siphon, flat Swift III, and Walker damage modifier (gear name not yet documented) makes the sword particularly strong on Damiane builds that lean into uptime: dodge-roll spam, parry-heavy aggressive play, or sustained combo strings on Walker-type bosses. On pure damage-per-hit builds aimed at non-Walker enemies, the gears can be extracted to a heavier-attack weapon while keeping the sword itself in storage as a constellation milestone.
On Damiane: keep the sword equipped to leverage the embedded gears directly. The base 17 to 27 Attack curve is competitive with other one-handed Damiane swords, so the gear stack is mostly upside.
On Kliff: cannot be equipped. Extract Celestial Transference at a Witch and re-apply it to a Kliff one-handed sword if the build wants Stamina Siphon coverage.
On Oongka: same as Kliff. Cannot equip; gears must be extracted.
Patch 1.04.00 added the sword, the final Scholastone quest, and the Celestial Transference gear in the same update. There were no Sword of Starlight changes in the 1.04.01 hotfix or 1.04.02 follow-up.
