Pure Black Dye
May 17, 2026 at 02:19 AM
Initial version covering Pure Black Dye acquisition via Raiders in Muiquun then Lawless Market wagon chain, Mock Root Windmill vendor spawn, and the Use plus Wyanut dye house application sequence
Pure Black Dye is one of the two rarest uncraftable dyes in Crimson Desert, the other being its mirror counterpart Pure White Dye. It produces a deep, fully saturated black on equipment and is widely considered one of the most prestigious finishes in the game. Because it cannot be crafted at a cauldron, it must be purchased from a single hidden vendor that only spawns after completing a multi-step quest chain anchored in the Tash Kalpha region.
The vendor lives in the back-alley space beneath the Mock Root Windmill. The full unlock route runs through two linked quests: the Raiders in Muiquun combat liberation, followed by the Lawless Market wagon-theft chain. Once both are finished, fast traveling to any abyss nexus refreshes the area, and the merchant marker appears beneath the windmill. Pure Black Dye sells alongside the rest of the vendor's small inventory.

Acquiring Pure Black Dye is a two-quest process, both anchored at the Tash Kalpha fast travel. The chain has no quest marker for the final vendor location, so map awareness matters more than the in-game tracking. Allow roughly thirty minutes for the full route on a first attempt.
Fast travel to Tash Kalpha and head out toward the Muiquun settlement to pick up the Request to Punish Outlaws in Muiquun prompt from the guard.
Engage the Mist Cloud Owl Raiders occupying the area and clear them out. Standard equipment is enough; no element imbue is required.
Once the area is liberated, return to the guard to report in. This completes the Raiders in Muiquun quest and opens the follow-up dialogue thread in town.
With Muiquun secured, head to the small Tash Kalpha settlement just below the main town fast travel to begin the Lawless Market quest line.
Eavesdrop on the wagon-theft conversation at the marked settlement, then speak to the marked NPC to accept the contract.
Wagon 1 sits parked right outside the wagon fence. Contrary to common belief, it does not need to be unstolen; simply mount it and deliver to the fence for the first credit.
Return to the same NPC. They will ask for two more wagons in quick succession.
Use the next fast travel out from the settlement and scout the open desert. Acceptable wagons can be parked stationary or actively driven by bandits; either source counts toward the contract.
Deliver Wagon 2 to the fence. While returning, scout the route for a parked Wagon 3 so the final delivery is quick.
Deliver Wagon 3. The quest auto-completes silently at this point. There is no NPC turn-in step.
Known bug: Between deliveries, the wagon can stick in place even after mounting. If movement does not resume, dismount and re-mount the wagon; this consistently clears the stall.
Open the world map and fast travel to any abyss nexus. The travel reset is what triggers the vendor spawn; sleeping or waiting in place does not work.
Return to the question-mark icon marked near the Mock Root Windmill.
Approach the base of the windmill rather than the main milling entrance. The Back-Alley Vendor at Mock Root Windmill stall is set up in the alley space underneath the structure.
Interact with the merchant and purchase Pure Black Dye from their inventory.
Pure Black Dye is a one-time activation item rather than a per-application consumable, so the use sequence matters.
Activate in inventory: Open the inventory, locate the Pure Black Dye, and click Use. This registers the color permanently to the account so it appears in the dye house palette.
Visit the dye house in Wyanut, the canonical first-application location for the rare pure-color dyes. Apply the black finish to whichever armor or cloak piece is being styled.
After the initial Wyanut application, the dye can also be applied at the dye house in the Howling Hill camp once the dye lover NPC is unlocked there. This is the most convenient option once the camp is set up.
As with every dye in the dye system, the saved color is permanent on the account and can be reapplied at any compatible Barber Shop and Dyehouse without re-buying the item. See How to Dye Equipment for the full dye house interface walkthrough.
The Mock Root Windmill vendor occupies the same back-alley spot whether or not the Lawless Market chain is complete, but the dye-specific inventory unlock only appears after the wagon chain. If the windmill is approached before the chain is finished, the merchant icon will not display and standard windmill activity will be the only thing in the area.
If the vendor still does not appear after the wagon chain finishes, try a second abyss-nexus fast travel and return; on slower client states the world reload only takes effect on a second region swap.
Pair Pure Black Dye with Pure White Dye on different dye zones of the same armor piece for a high-contrast knightly aesthetic; many players reserve both dyes for their best late-game armor for this reason.
Because the dye is activation-based, there is no benefit to hoarding the inventory item. Use it on first acquisition to unlock the color across the dye house palette.
The wagon-theft chain is the only step that can stall a run. Keeping the dismount-and-remount workaround in mind avoids a forced quest restart.
The Mock Root Windmill vendor sells other stealth-utility items as well; buying out the keys on the same visit is a common quality-of-life recommendation for early-region pickups.
