The Nightmare Burner drops when a hunter skins the body of the legendary Phoenix, a creature introduced alongside the Patch 1.04 bird-taming system. The Phoenix roams the skies near the Merchant's Resting Place watering hole, south of the Trader Expanse in the Crimson Desert region, just north of Valencia. It flies with a small flock of colorful parrots, which makes it easy to spot from the nearby fast travel point. Skinning the downed body yields both the Nightmare Burner wall decoration and a Phoenix Feather, the key crafting component used to bond with the Phoenix as a pet.
Make sure the Phoenix actually dies before attempting to skin it. If a shot knocks it out of the sky without finishing it off, it can limp away and despawn for several in-game days before respawning in the area, delaying any further attempts at the drop.
The Phoenix has a very deep health pool and almost never lands, so ranged attacks are mandatory. A bow loadout tuned for aerial targets handles it cleanly. Explosive arrows are the most consistent option, since they reward near-misses and knock the flock apart on impact. The Charge Shot skill, ideally maxed at rank 5, lets a patient hunter line up a fully-wound shot after marking the target in focus mode, and the Focus Shot skill at rank 3 keeps the slow-motion window long enough to stack several marks before releasing. Frost imbuement is a useful safety net: a clean frost hit briefly freezes the Phoenix mid-flight, which turns the follow-up volley into a stationary shot.
Position matters more than raw damage. Chase the flock from below and slightly ahead of its flight path, wait until the bird drifts into lock-on range, then commit to a fully marked charge shot rather than spamming fire. Once it drops, sprint to the corpse and skin it before the body cools, since leaving the zone can void the drop.
The Nightmare Burner is a wall-mounted dream-catcher decoration designed for Personal Housing. It cannot be equipped or used in combat, and it is not consumed by any crafting recipe. To display it, enter a personal house, switch into Housing Mode, open the furniture placement menu, and select the Nightmare Burner from the wall decoration category. It then snaps onto any compatible wall surface and can be rotated before being confirmed in place.
Only one Nightmare Burner drops per Phoenix kill, but multiple copies can be collected across respawns if a player wants to decorate several walls or houses. The item shares the Phoenix Feather drop table, so a successful skin contributes to both a display piece and progress toward the Phoenix pet unlock in the same loot pickup.
Phoenix Feather, the co-drop from skinning the Phoenix, used to craft the Sigil of Solidarity for the Phoenix pet.
