Overview

The Large Gilded Shield is a large shield in Crimson Desert. that serves as the larger counterpart to the standard Gilded Shield.

It provides a base Defense of 4 with no speed bonuses, focusing entirely on blocking coverage through its wider frame. The shield is crafted at a Blacksmith after reading the Shields of the World, Vol. II crafting manual. While the standard Gilded Shield (DEF 4, Attack Speed Lv. 1, Movement Speed Lv. 1) offers balanced speed bonuses, the Large Gilded Shield trades those speed benefits for the enhanced frontal coverage that large shields provide.

How to Obtain

The Large Gilded Shield is crafted at any Blacksmith after reading the Shields of the World, Vol. II crafting manual. This manual can be purchased at the Equipment Shop in Calphade, Hernand. The crafting recipe requires Timber x20 and Fine Timber x5. Both materials are common logging resources available throughout the Hernand region and beyond.

Abyss Core Slots

The Large Gilded Shield has 2 Abyss Core slots, allowing players to customize the shield with passive bonuses. Cores can be socketed or removed through a witch NPC at no cost, making experimentation straightforward. Some recommended cores for this shield include:

• Fortification I (Defense +3): Adds flat defense on top of the shield's base stat, further strengthening its damage absorption.

• Aegis I (Damage Reduction 1.0): Provides flat damage reduction per hit, stacking with the shield's defense for stronger overall mitigation.

• Fortitude I (Guard Stamina Consumption -3.0%): Reduces the stamina cost of blocking, letting you sustain your guard longer through multi-hit combos.

Combat Usage

At DEF 4 with no speed modifiers, the Large Gilded Shield occupies a middle position among large shields. It is more protective than the Bekker Large Shield and Thalwynd Large Shield (both DEF 4 as well, but from different crafting lines) and significantly less protective than the Gilliam Large Shield (DEF 8) or Lifsoth Large Shield (DEF 8). For players looking for a large shield from the Vol. II crafting tier, the Gilliam Large Shield is the stronger option if raw defense is the priority. The Large Gilded Shield may appeal to players who want a large shield stepping stone before finding or crafting a higher-defense option. The two Abyss Core slots allow customization, and refinement at a Blacksmith increases the base defense. Compared to the standard Gilded Shield, the Large Gilded Shield sacrifices both speed bonuses for broader frontal coverage, so it fits a slower, more deliberate combat approach.
