The Ironflame Orcs are a faction in Crimson Desert based in the fortress of Gorthak, located in the northwestern corner of the Delesyia region near the Demeniss border. They are a community of orcs renowned for their mastery of metalwork and industrial engineering. The Ironflame Orcs play a pivotal role in the second half of the main story, becoming central to the events of Chapter 10: Counterattack and beyond.
The faction is best known for building the ATAG (All-Terrain Armored Gear) combat mechs, powerful mechanized vehicles that Kliff pilots to defend Gorthak against waves of mechanized attackers. Outside of the main story, the Ironflame Orcs also offer faction quests and provide advanced crafting recipes for the Kuku Iron Pot enhancement system.
The Ironflame Orcs control territory in the northwestern part of Delesyia. Their bastion, Gorthak, is a heavily fortified settlement built around forges and workshops. The surrounding area features industrial architecture consistent with Delesyia's steampunk aesthetic: factories, mechanical piping, and ironwork structures dominate the landscape. The region stretches from the coastal areas around Dewhaven in the southwest to the Ironflame Orcs' territory in the northwest near the Demeniss border.
Gorthak houses the Ironflame Ironworks, which is one of the most significant manufacturing sites in Pywel. The fortress itself serves as both a military stronghold and an industrial center where the orcs forge weapons, armor, and mechanical constructs, including the ATAG mechs.
The Ironflame Orcs become directly involved in the main questline during Chapter 10: Counterattack. At this point in the story, Gorthak comes under siege by mechanized creatures, and conventional weapons prove insufficient to repel the assault. Kliff travels to Gorthak, meets the Master of the Ironworks, and is given access to the ATAG combat mech to defend the fortress.
The defense of Gorthak is one of the most dramatic set-piece battles in the game. Kliff pilots the ATAG through waves of mechanical enemies, using the mech's heavy armament (machine gun, blast cannon, EMP discharge, and ramming attacks) to hold the line. Successfully defending Gorthak strengthens the alliance between the Greymanes and the Ironflame Orcs, and opens up additional crafting and quest opportunities.
Oongka, one of the three playable characters and a member of the Greymanes, is an orc by birth. While Oongka is specifically identified as a Greymane comrade rather than a member of the Ironflame faction, his heritage connects him to orc culture in Pywel. Oongka's presence in the party helps facilitate the alliance with the Ironflame Orcs during Chapter 10.
The Ironflame Orcs offer their own set of faction quests, which become available from Chapter 10 onward. Faction quests are Crimson Desert's primary side quest system, organized under named factions with their own NPCs, agendas, and reward pools. Completing Ironflame Orcs faction quests rewards Contribution points, crafting materials, and Kuku Iron Pot enhancement recipes.
Quest | Availability | Details |
|---|---|---|
New Designs [unverified] | Chapter 11 | Unlocked at the start of Chapter 11. Rewards a blueprint for the Small Kuku A.T.A.G., allowing players to craft a mech at the Mysterious Iron Pot Workshop in Hernand. |
Additional Ironflame Orcs quests may become available as the story progresses and through post-game content. Check the faction quests hub for a full list of all side quests organized by faction.
One of the main benefits of engaging with the Ironflame Orcs is access to advanced crafting recipes. Enhancing the Kuku Iron Pot allows Kliff to craft equipment with better performance, and the Ironflame Orcs provide some of these enhancement recipes as rewards for completing their faction quests. Recipes from the Ironflame Orcs faction become available from Chapter 10 onward, complementing the recipes obtained from the Witches faction (available from Chapter 5).
The Ironflame Orcs faction quests only become available from Chapter 10 onward, so focus on other faction quests during the early game.
Completing Ironflame Orcs quests is one of the primary ways to obtain Kuku Iron Pot enhancement recipes for late-game gear crafting.
The ATAG mech introduced during the defense of Gorthak can be crafted later through the "New Designs [unverified]" quest reward.
Store any Abyss Cores you find, as some Ironflame Orcs crafting recipes require rare materials.
