How to Unlock Damiane
April 3, 2026 at 05:13 AM
Initial creation with verified unlock steps, starting gear, playstyle overview, and character switching instructions
Damiane is the second playable character you gain access to in Crimson Desert. She becomes available early in Chapter 3 once you complete the camp setup at Howling Hill. Unlike Kliff, who fills a versatile all-rounder role, Damiane is built around speed, evasion, and ranged firepower. She hits fast, dodges frequently, and punishes openings with precise strikes.
Damiane unlocks automatically through the main story. There are no optional side quests or hidden conditions required. You simply need to progress through the End of Greed questline at the end of Chapter 2 and then begin Chapter 3.
Complete the End of Greed questline, which wraps up Chapter 2 of the main story.
Enter Chapter 3: Howling Hill. Marquis Serkis grants the Greymanes a fief at Howling Hill, and the group begins setting up camp.
Start the main quest "A Fresh Start." Kliff must complete four construction tasks: moving supply sacks, hammering tent stakes, clearing rocks and pushing a wagon, and raising the clan banner. These can be done in any order.
After completing the camp setup, Damiane joins the group. Barden Middler insists she remain with the Greymanes for her safety. The quest then forces you to switch to Damiane to handle several tasks around the homestead.
Once the quest concludes, Damiane is permanently unlocked. You can freely switch to her at any point going forward.

When Damiane first becomes playable, she arrives with two equipped weapons:
Weapon | Type | Notes |
|---|---|---|
White Wind Rapier | Rapier | Fast melee weapon with riposte bonuses after dodges |
Absolute Justice Greatsword | Greatsword | Slower two-handed option for heavier single hits |
You can swap these out for other weapons as you progress. Damiane can equip rapiers, greatswords, pistols, muskets, shields, and dual blades. Many players eventually pair a rapier with a pistol or shield for her strongest combat loops.
Damiane is a glass cannon. She has lower HP than Kliff and Oongka, but she compensates with the fastest attack speed and the best evasion tools in the game. Her combat revolves around dodging attacks and punishing enemies during their recovery windows.
Speed: Fastest attack chains of all three characters. Rapier combos can land four or five hits in the time Kliff swings twice.
Evasion: Her dodge is faster and covers more distance. Skills like Evasive Roll in her Spirit tree extend this further.
Ranged options: Damiane uses firearms (pistols and muskets) instead of bows. The pistol's dodge-shot mechanic chains seamlessly into rapier ripostes.
Shield Sentinel: A Spirit tree skill that converts her shield into a floating sentry turret. It fires at nearby enemies automatically while you focus on melee attacks.
Blade Sentinel: Deploys a hovering blade that deals continuous background damage to surrounding enemies.
Low HP: She cannot tank hits the way Oongka or even Kliff can. Getting caught in a combo is punishing.
No Abyss puzzle access: Damiane cannot solve Abyss puzzles. Only Kliff can interact with those mechanics.
Requires precision: Her damage output depends on well-timed dodges and counterattacks. Button mashing is less effective than it is with other characters.
Damiane has three skill trees, the same structure as the other playable characters:
Tree | Focus | Notable Skills |
|---|---|---|
Stamina | Ranged and melee versatility | Marksmanship, Charged Shot, sword techniques, unarmed combat |
Spirit | Reaction-based abilities | Focused Shot, Blade Sentinel, Shield Sentinel, Double Jump, Evasive Roll |
Health | Elemental and mobility | Flight, Skystep, Flame Rush, Frost Mantle, Storm Pillar, Lightning Strike |
Keep in mind that all three playable characters share a single Abyss Artifact skill point pool. Over-investing in Damiane's trees can leave Kliff under-leveled for mandatory boss fights later in the story.
Once unlocked, you can switch to Damiane at any time during open world exploration and side quests using the character switching system:
Keyboard: Press and hold F1 to open the Character Wheel. Select Damiane and release.
Controller: Hold Up on the D-Pad to open the Character Wheel. Use the Right Stick to highlight Damiane, then release.
Switching characters teleports you to that character's last known location. If Damiane is nearby in the open world, the swap happens on the spot without a loading screen.
You cannot switch characters during main story missions or boss fights. Character switching is only available during free roam and side content.
Deploy Blade Sentinel or Shield Sentinel at the start of fights. The passive damage adds up while you focus on dodging and countering.
Pair the rapier with a pistol early on. The pistol's dodge-shot feeds directly into rapier ripostes, creating a smooth damage loop.
Invest in the Spirit tree first. Evasive Roll and Double Jump dramatically improve Damiane's survivability.
Use Damiane for clearing groups of weaker enemies. Her fast attacks and area denial from sentinels let her handle mobs efficiently.
Switch back to Kliff for Abyss puzzles and story boss encounters where Damiane cannot participate.
