How to Defeat Enemies with a Shield

Initial version covering shield combat techniques
Shields in Crimson Desert serve both defensive and offensive roles. Mastering shield combat lets you block incoming attacks, parry for counterattack openings, and bash enemies into stagger states.
Hold the guard button (L1 on PlayStation, LB on Xbox) to raise your shield and lock onto a target. While blocking, most attacks deal reduced damage. Red-glint attacks cannot be parried but can still be blocked with a shield, making shields especially valuable against aggressive enemies.
Tap the guard button right as an enemy's attack is about to connect.
A successful parry produces a distinct sound cue and a visual glint.
Parrying restores Stamina and Spirit, making it both a defensive and resource-generating move.
Parries also fill the stagger meter. Once full, the enemy becomes stunned for a long duration, opening them up for your hardest combos.
While guarding, hold the heavy attack button to strike with your shield. This deals moderate damage and can knock enemies off balance. A running shield charge sends groups of enemies flying, which is excellent for crowd control.
Shields have durability that decreases when you block heavy hits. If a shield breaks, Kliff staggers significantly more when trying to block. Keep an eye on your shield's condition and repair or replace it at a blacksmith when it gets low.
Prioritize parries over blocks. Blocking drains stamina and shield durability, while parrying restores resources and builds stagger.
Watch for red glints. These attacks bypass parries but can be blocked. Switch from parry timing to holding guard when you see the red flash.
Combine with one-handed weapons. One-handed swords pair naturally with shields and allow fast attacks between blocks.
