The Herspia is the first horse breed that players obtain in Crimson Desert. Kliff receives a Herspia during the prologue mission "Unknown Space," making it the default mount for the early hours of the game. While the Herspia does not excel in any particular stat, it provides solid all-around performance for basic exploration and travel. It is a permanent mount, meaning it can be summoned at any time through the mount menu.
Herspia horses can also be found roaming in the wild across multiple regions, purchased from stables for silver, or stolen from NPCs who ride them. Because it is the first mount most players level up, the Herspia often remains a go-to option well into the mid-game simply because of accumulated experience and unlocked skills.
The table below shows the full stat growth from Level 1 through Level 5:
Level | HP | Stamina | Attack | Defense | Speed | Accel | Handling | Jump |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Lv. 1 | 350 | 180 | 7 | 35 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 |
Lv. 2 | 370 | 195 | 9 | 38 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 2 |
Lv. 3 | 390 | 210 | 13 | 41 | 3 | 2 | 2 | 2 |
Lv. 4 | 420 | 225 | 17 | 44 | 3 | 2 | 2 | 2 |
Lv. 5 | 470 | 255 | 21 | 47 | 3 | 3 | 3 | 3 |
The Herspia is automatically given to Kliff during the main quest "Unknown Space" immediately after the prologue. During the mission "New Journey," Kliff rides the Herspia to the City of Hernand, and the horse becomes permanently registered to the player from that point on.

Wild Herspia horses spawn across multiple regions. To tame one, approach the horse while it is unaware, mount it, and complete the taming minigame. The minigame requires moving the left stick (controller) or pressing directional keys (keyboard) in the opposite direction the horse is facing. Continue pressing against the horse's movements until the taming bar fills completely. Failing the minigame causes the horse to buck Kliff off and flee.
Stables in major settlements occasionally stock Herspia horses for purchase with silver. This method skips the taming minigame entirely, though the horse starts at Level 1 regardless of purchase method.
NPCs and bandits throughout Pywel ride Herspia horses. Players can steal a mounted Herspia by equipping a mask and interacting with the NPC's horse. Stealing counts as a criminal act and may attract guard attention in populated areas.
Attribute | Value |
|---|---|
Health | 350 |
Stamina | 180 |
Attack | 7 |
Defense | 35 |
Movement Speed | 1 |
Acceleration | 1 |
Handling | 1 |
Jump Power | 1 |
All stats listed above are base values at Level 1. Stats improve as the horse gains experience through riding and combat.
Herspia horses unlock new movement and combat skills as they level up from riding experience:
Level | Skill | Description |
|---|---|---|
2 | Dash | Burst of forward speed for quick travel. |
3 | Drift | Sharp directional turns while sprinting without losing momentum. |
3 | Back Kick | The horse kicks backward, hitting enemies directly behind. |
4 | Sprint | Extended high-speed gallop that consumes stamina. |
5 | Swimming III | Improved swimming speed and stamina efficiency in water. |
5 | Double Jump | Perform a second jump in mid-air for clearing obstacles. |
5 | Quick Start | Faster acceleration from a standstill. |
The Herspia has average stats across the board when compared to other horse breeds. It is outclassed in speed by the Elantrima and Numont, and in stamina by the Priden and Brianto. The three legendary horses (Royler, Rokade, and Camora) surpass the Herspia in every category. However, because the Herspia is obtained so early, most players have it at a higher level than any horse they acquire later, which partially offsets its lower base stats.
Level up the Herspia early by riding it frequently between locations rather than using fast travel.
Equip a Shabby Horse Saddle and Shabby Horseshoes from the starting area to boost performance.
The Herspia remains useful even after obtaining better horses, because its accumulated skill unlocks (Dash, Sprint, Double Jump) carry over if you have leveled it.
Consider investing in Horse Items to supplement the Herspia's average base stats.
If you want a direct upgrade, seek out the Legendary Horses (Royler, Rokade, Camora) which are available relatively early if you know where to look.
