Overview

Hernand Castle serves as the central fortress of the Duchy of Hernand. The stronghold benefits from strategic defensive advantages, surrounded by deep canyons and the Nas River, which provide natural barriers against attack. A grindstone can be found just inside the main entrance for weapon maintenance.

Location

The castle overlooks the City of Hernand from higher ground. Nearby areas include the Church of Hernand, the Hernand Highlands, and the Hernand North Gate. The Nas River flows around the castle's base, forming part of its natural defenses.

Access Requirements

Players must wear Hernandian Attire to pass through the castle gate. Without the proper clothing, guards will deny entry. The attire can be obtained in two ways:

• Free method: Complete the chimney-cleaning task at Muckroot Ranch as part of the Actions Speak Louder than Words quest. The married couple (Arlan and Lauren) reward you with the Hernandian Attire.

• Purchase method: Buy the attire from the Tailor's Shop (Tina) in the City of Hernand, or purchase the Canta Armor set which also grants entry.

Only the upper garment piece needs to be equipped; other armor slots can remain unchanged. Once you have been admitted once while wearing the attire, subsequent visits allow entry in any clothing. After reaching Chapter 3, the gates open permanently.

This system serves as a tutorial for Crimson Desert's disguise mechanic, where wearing faction-specific clothing allows players to bypass hostile guards throughout the game.

Castle Interior

Ground Floor

• Grindstone: Located just inside the main entrance. Use it to sharpen weapons and restore weapon durability.

• Kitchen: Contains the Recipe: Meat and Vegetable Porridge on the right side of a table. This is a free recipe pickup.

• Courtyard: An open area where castle NPCs can be found, including guards and officials.

Southern Section

The southern part of the castle houses the Hernandian Contributions Shop, operated by Haldwin. This vendor sells unique items in exchange for Hernandian Contribution tokens.

Second Floor

The first door on the left of the second floor contains a glowing chest with a Faded Abyss Artifact. This item is used during the Mystical Key quest and connects to the Alchemist's Chamber questline.

Hernandian Contributions Shop

Haldwin's shop offers equipment and items purchasable with Contribution Points earned through faction quests and vendor requests.

Strongbox Puzzle

Hernand Castle contains a strongbox that requires a key to access. The room containing the strongbox is locked, and players must have the Steal ability unlocked to open it. The strongbox rewards valuable equipment and accessories.

Quests

• Mystical Key: A main quest tied to the castle. Involves the Faded Abyss Artifact and leads to the Alchemist's Chamber.

• Actions Speak Louder than Words: The quest that rewards the Hernandian Attire needed for castle access.
