Initial version (2026-03-26)
The Flame Knight's Shield is a shield in Crimson Desert. that bears the markings associated with the knights who once served the Flame Knight.
Despite sharing a thematic connection to the Flame Knight, this is a common craftable shield rather than the unique Drake Shield that Tristan himself carried. It provides a base Defense of 2 alongside Attack Speed Lv. 1 and Movement Speed Lv. 1, offering a balanced but entry-level stat spread. The shield is unlocked through the Shields of the World, Vol. 1 crafting manual.

Crafting Manual |
The Flame Knight's Shield is crafted at any Blacksmith after reading the Shields of the World, Vol. 1 crafting manual. This manual can be purchased at the Equipment Shop in Calphade, Hernand for 50 Copper. The crafting recipe requires Timber x10 and Fine Timber x5. Both materials are gathered from logging spots throughout the Hernand region and surrounding areas. Fine Timber can also be purchased from material vendors.
The following materials are required to craft the Flame Knight's Shield at a Blacksmith:
Timber x10
Fine Timber x5
The Flame Knight's Shield has 2 Abyss Core slots, allowing players to customize the shield with passive bonuses. Cores can be socketed or removed through a witch NPC at no cost, making experimentation straightforward. Some recommended cores for this shield include:
Fortification I (Defense +3): A straightforward defense boost that helps compensate for the shield's lower base defense.
Fortitude I (Guard Stamina Consumption -3.0%): Reduces the stamina drained when blocking, making sustained defense more efficient.
Aegis I (Damage Reduction 1.0): Provides flat damage reduction per hit, useful for absorbing chip damage from enemy combos.
With DEF 2 and dual Lv. 1 speed bonuses, the Flame Knight's Shield shares an identical stat profile with the City Guard's Shield. The difference lies in crafting materials: the Flame Knight's Shield uses wood-based materials (Timber and Fine Timber) rather than metal ores, making it accessible to players who have stockpiled logging resources. At its low base defense, the shield is best suited for early-game encounters where enemies do not hit hard enough to punish light blocking. Players who have progressed past the opening chapters will likely want to upgrade to a stronger shield, but the Flame Knight's Shield can serve as a serviceable stopgap while working toward higher-tier options. The two Abyss Core slots allow customization, and refinement at a Blacksmith increases the base defense. This shield should not be confused with the Drake Shield, which is the unique Tier 4 shield actually wielded by the Flame Knight boss.
The following table compares the Flame Knight's Shield with other shields that have a similar stat profile.
Shield | Defense | ATK Speed | MOV Speed | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Flame Knight's Shield | 2 | Lv. 1 | Lv. 1 | Crafted (Shields of the World, Vol. 1) |
2 | Lv. 1 | Lv. 1 | Crafted / Quest / Shop | |
5 | Lv. 1 | Lv. 1 | World loot | |
5 | Lv. 1 | Lv. 1 | World loot | |
6 | Lv. 1 | Lv. 1 | Sanctum of Absolution |
The Shields of the World, Vol. 1 manual is available at the Equipment Shop in Calphade, Hernand for 50 Copper. Purchase it early to unlock the full range of Vol. 1 shield recipes.
With a low base defense, this shield benefits significantly from early refinement levels. Even two or three refinement levels at a Blacksmith add meaningful protection.
If you find a stronger shield, this one can be sold to free up inventory space. Check the Equipment section for other available shields.
Pairing any shield with a fast one-handed sword or dagger creates a balanced loadout where you can block incoming attacks and quickly counterattack between enemy swings.
