Initial version: DualSense haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and integration details
The PlayStation 5 version of Crimson Desert takes advantage of the DualSense wireless controller's haptic feedback and adaptive trigger technology. These features provide physical sensations that correspond to in-game actions, adding a tactile dimension to combat, traversal, and environmental interaction.
The DualSense's haptic motors deliver localized vibrations that vary in intensity and pattern based on gameplay context. During combat, each weapon clash produces distinct feedback that reflects the weight and material of the weapon involved. A sword striking a metal shield feels noticeably different from an axe slamming into wood. The feedback conveys the physical impact of each hit, making combat encounters feel grounded and tactile.
Environmental interactions also use haptic feedback. Walking across different terrain surfaces (stone, grass, sand, snow) produces subtle variations through the controller. Riding a horse at full gallop transmits the rhythmic pounding of hooves, while swimming generates resistance patterns that shift with current speed.
The DualSense adaptive triggers adjust their resistance dynamically. Drawing a bow string introduces progressive tension on the R2 trigger, simulating the pull of the bowstring. Heavier weapons like greatswords and axes create a weighty resistance on R2 when initiating power attacks, while lighter weapons like dual blades offer minimal trigger resistance for quick, responsive slashes.
Mounted traversal uses adaptive trigger tension to reflect the effort of controlling different mounts. Spurring a horse creates a rhythmic pulse, while gripping a flying mount during aerial maneuvers produces sustained tension.
Action | Haptic Effect | Trigger Effect |
|---|---|---|
Sword and shield combat | Impact vibration on parry and block | Medium resistance on R2 for power slashes |
Drawing a bow | Subtle tension as arrow is nocked | Progressive resistance simulating drawstring pull |
Greatsword heavy swing | Deep, low-frequency rumble on impact | Heavy resistance reflecting weapon weight |
Horseback gallop | Rhythmic hoofbeat pattern | Pulsing spur resistance on L2/R2 |
Gliding | Wind rush vibration | Light, sustained tension for directional control |
Fishing | Line tugging and fish struggling vibrations | Variable tension as fish fights the line |
DualSense features are exclusive to the PlayStation 5 version. The PC version supports the DualSense controller for standard input but does not utilize haptic feedback or adaptive trigger features through Steam. Xbox Series X|S uses the standard Xbox Wireless Controller, which does not have comparable haptic or adaptive trigger capabilities.
