Materials serve various purposes in Crimson Desert.
Cylindrical Wooden Boxes are the max-trust reward from Wandering Free Swords, a specific profession class within the NPC Trust System. These are the travelling mercenary NPCs you see wandering between towns and along the roads, usually armed with a one-handed sword. They are not tied to any specific shop or town, which makes them slightly harder to farm than shopkeepers, but there are enough of them in Pywel that most players cap several by the mid-game.
Ammunition (arrows and bolts) is their signature gift.
Drinks (the standard peasant-class drinks).
Meals (the standard peasant-class meals).
Their race also stacks its own preferences on top. Troll free swords will also accept hides for +10 each; human ones take coin pouches for +5. As with all trust NPCs, their side quest (if they have one) is worth +50 trust, which accounts for most of the way to the 100 cap.
Opening a Cylindrical Wooden Box rolls from a modest loot table. The documented drops are:
Hidden treasure maps that point at buried caches in the overworld.
Civilian letters with occasional lore text and the odd side-quest hook.
Occasional items (the transcript source did not enumerate the full list, but the drops are in the rare-to-common trade-goods tier).
Because the box can contain a treasure map, stockpile several and open them in a batch rather than one at a time so you can route the maps efficiently.
The Rabbit Leather Mask and any abyss gear with a trust-gain affix both apply to every free sword interaction, so wearing them during the farm measurably shortens the grind to 100.
