Cradle of Defense expands on the banner pike mechanic introduced in The Counterattack. This time, Kliff must raise three banner pikes across three different locations: the siege armory, the gunpowder mill, and Thalwynd. Each location is held by Black Bears forces that must be dealt with before or during the banner placement.
Travel to the first marker. Use Nature's Grasp (Triangle + Circle / Y + B) to pick up the banner, carry it to the platform, and plant it with L1 + Square / LB + X. Placing the banner clears any remaining enemies from the area.
Same procedure as the siege armory. Pick up the banner, carry it up, and plant it. The enemies here are slightly tougher, but the approach is identical.
Thalwynd is the hardest of the three locations. Artillery towers fire continuously in this area, and the shells can hit you while carrying the banner. Use Nature's Grasp's time-slowing effect to move through the bombardment more safely. You can also clear the enemies first, then pick up the banner and carry it without interruption.
Slot | Recommendation | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Weapon | Obtained from the Crowcaller boss in Chapter 5 | |
Skill | Nature's Echo (green tree) | Duplicates heavy attacks for extra damage |
Prerequisites | Complete all three ranks of both before Nature's Echo |
Grapple enemies will try to grab you while you are on the ground. Complete the Triangle / Y button QTE quickly when grabbed to minimize damage.
You can clear all enemies at a location before picking up the banner. This is especially useful at Thalwynd where the artillery makes carrying the banner under fire dangerous.
At Thalwynd, the time-slowing effect from Nature's Grasp gives you a brief window to move through artillery fire. Use it deliberately rather than sprinting blindly.
