Combat in Crimson Desert emphasizes fighting game-style combo systems that reward memorizing button combinations. Pearl Abyss has stated the gameplay is 'more like a brawler with some fighting game influences' rather than a souls-like or traditional RPG.
Instead of having standard light attack/heavy attack buttons with skills on face buttons, Crimson Desert requires players to memorize specific button combinations to take full advantage of their arsenal.
Pressing various combinations of face buttons and shoulder buttons executes special attacks. Pairs of face buttons pressed together pull off moves like sweeping reverse slashes or flurry attacks with rapid sequences of blows.
Neckbreaker - A wrestling-style RKO takedown executed with Circle + Triangle, followed by an R1 sword stab. One of the signature combat moves.
Turning Slash - Deals a vicious blow before hurling enemies away, useful for crowd control.
Flurry Slash - A rapid sequence of deadly sword strikes for maximum damage output.
Force Palm - Pressing R3 shoots energy waves from Kliff's palm. Aiming at the ground three times propels Kliff high into the air.
The Axiom Bracelet enables fire, ice, and lightning-infused strikes with unique tactical effects. Fire arrows explode on impact. Ice-enhanced blades freeze enemies solid for shattering follow-up strikes. Lightning paralyzes foes and disrupts shields.
Elements can boost traversal too - using ice combined with the palm attack can propel Kliff into the air.
Kliff can shoot magic at the ground to launch himself into the air, then chain that into a ground pound or slow-motion arrow barrage. Or he can infuse magic into his sword for Ninja Gaiden-like ground combos.
The grappling hook allows Spider-Man style swinging around large enemies like the Queen Stoneback Crab, coming down with smashing attacks on weak points.
