Initial version (2026-03-26)
The City Guard's Shield is a shield in Crimson Desert. crafted from iron and copper.
It provides a base Defense of 2 alongside Attack Speed Lv. 1 and Movement Speed Lv. 1, giving it a balanced but modest stat profile. As one of the shields unlocked through the Shields of the World, Vol. 1 crafting manual, it becomes available early in the game once the player purchases the manual from the Equipment Shop in Calphade, Hernand. The shield's name suggests it was designed for the city guards of the Hernand region, built for practical use rather than battlefield dominance.

The City Guard's Shield is crafted at any Blacksmith after reading the Shields of the World, Vol. 1 crafting manual. This manual can be purchased at the Equipment Shop in Calphade, Hernand for 50 Copper. The crafting recipe requires Iron Ore x5 and Copper Ore x2. Iron Ore is gathered from mining nodes found throughout the Hernandian Territory, while Copper Ore appears at certain mining spots in the Hernand area and surrounding regions. Both materials can also be purchased from material vendors.
The following materials are required to craft the City Guard's Shield at a Blacksmith:
Iron Ore x5
Copper Ore x2
The City Guard's Shield has 2 Abyss Core slots, allowing players to customize the shield with passive bonuses. Cores can be socketed or removed through a witch NPC at no cost, making experimentation straightforward. Some recommended cores for this shield include:
Fortification I (Defense +3): A straightforward defense boost that helps compensate for the shield's lower base defense.
Fortitude I (Guard Stamina Consumption -3.0%): Reduces the stamina drained when blocking, making sustained defense more efficient.
Aegis I (Damage Reduction 1.0): Provides flat damage reduction per hit, useful for absorbing chip damage from enemy combos.
With DEF 2 and small bonuses to both Attack Speed and Movement Speed, the City Guard's Shield is a lightweight option for players who want a bit of everything without committing to a pure defensive or mobility build. The dual Lv. 1 speed bonuses mean slightly faster attacks from the paired weapon and marginally quicker repositioning during combat. At its low base defense, the shield will not absorb heavy hits well, so players should rely more on parrying and dodging than sustained blocking. The two Abyss Core slots allow customization to shore up its weaknesses or enhance its strengths. Refinement at a Blacksmith increases the base defense, though investing refinement materials into this shield may not be worthwhile once stronger shields become available through later quests and crafting manuals.
The following table compares the City Guard's Shield with other shields that have a similar stat profile.
Shield | Defense | ATK Speed | MOV Speed | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
City Guard's Shield | 2 | Lv. 1 | Lv. 1 | Crafted (Shields of the World, Vol. 1) |
2 | Lv. 1 | Lv. 1 | Crafted / Quest / Shop | |
5 | Lv. 1 | Lv. 1 | World loot | |
5 | Lv. 1 | Lv. 1 | World loot | |

The Shields of the World, Vol. 1 manual is available at the Equipment Shop in Calphade, Hernand for 50 Copper. Purchase it early to unlock the full range of Vol. 1 shield recipes.
With a low base defense, this shield benefits significantly from early refinement levels. Even two or three refinement levels at a Blacksmith add meaningful protection.
If you find a stronger shield, this one can be sold to free up inventory space. Check the Equipment section for other available shields.
Pairing any shield with a fast one-handed sword or dagger creates a balanced loadout where you can block incoming attacks and quickly counterattack between enemy swings.
