The Black Sun Shield is a unique shield in Crimson Desert found hidden inside a secret room beneath a bridge in Demeniss. It is obtained as the reward for completing the Buried Treasure quest, which becomes available after capturing the outlaw Ursula during her bounty mission. The shield provides solid defensive stats alongside valuable Abyss Gear modifiers that reduce guard stamina costs and incoming damage, making it one of the stronger shields available in the early-to-mid game.
The Black Sun Shield has the following base stats:
Stat | Value |
|---|---|
7 | |
Level 2 | |
Damage Reduction | +1.0 |
Guard Stamina Cost | -3.0% |
Sell Price | 8.89 Silver |
The Black Sun Shield comes equipped with two Abyss Gear modifiers that enhance its defensive capabilities:
Effect | |
|---|---|
Grants passive Damage Reduction (+1.0), reducing all incoming damage by a flat amount | |
Reduces Guard Stamina Cost by 3.0%, allowing more frequent blocking without depleting stamina |
The combination of Aegis I and Fortitude I makes this shield particularly effective for players who rely on a guard-heavy playstyle. The stamina savings from Fortitude I compound over the course of longer fights, letting you maintain your guard through sequences of attacks that would otherwise drain your stamina bar completely.
The Black Sun Shield is the reward found inside Ursula's hidden treasure room. Reaching it requires completing several steps tied to the Buried Treasure quest in the Demeniss region.
While exploring Demeniss, you will come across purple bounty flyers posted around the city. Accepting one of these flyers initiates the Bounty Notice - Ursula quest, which tasks you with capturing an outlaw named Ursula who has been spotted cultivating dangerous crops at Slopeseed Farm. Travel to the marked area on your map and locate Ursula in the circular search zone. Be ready to give chase, because she will attempt to flee as soon as you approach. Keep an eye on the bounty icon on your map as it moves with her, then capture her and turn her in to the authorities.
After handing Ursula over to the authorities, you will receive Ursula's Journal as a quest item. Open your inventory and read the journal to trigger the Buried Treasure quest. The journal mentions a secret stash and references a map hidden somewhere near the farm.
Follow the quest marker to a house near Slopeseed Farm and find the map on a table inside. The map reveals three dig sites marked by dirt mounds in the surrounding area. Use a basic shovel (upgraded shovels will not work for this quest) to dig at each of the three marked locations near the farm, the scarecrow, the hay pile, and the lake fence. These excavations yield minor loot and ultimately point you toward Ursula's Secret Place.
Ursula's Secret Place is located in the watery area of Demeniss City, beneath the main bridge. Swim to the middle pillar of the bridge (not the side pillars) and look for a wall section marked with a faint leaf symbol. This wall conceals the hidden room.
Important: Do not punch the wall while standing in the water or on the ground. If you do, the secret door will briefly open and then immediately slam shut, making it impossible to enter.
Instead, follow these steps to enter correctly:
Climb onto the wall with the leaf symbol and hang in place.
While clinging to the wall, stab your weapon into it to anchor yourself.
The wall will flip on a hinge mechanism, carrying you along with it to the other side.
You will land inside the secret room where Ursula's Treasure Chest sits.
Open the chest to claim the Black Sun Shield along with any other loot inside.

Prerequisites |
The Black Sun Shield is well suited for players who favor a defensive shield combat approach. Its Movement Speed Level 2 rating prevents the sluggish movement penalties that heavier shields impose, letting you reposition freely during combat while still maintaining strong protection.
The -3.0% Guard Stamina Cost reduction from Fortitude I is especially valuable during boss encounters and fights against enemies with rapid multi-hit attack chains. Normally, sustained blocking drains your stamina bar quickly, forcing you to drop your guard at critical moments. With this shield, you can hold your guard through longer attack sequences before needing to recover.
The +1.0 Damage Reduction from Aegis I applies passively to all incoming damage, providing a consistent survivability boost that stacks with other damage reduction sources from your armor and accessories. While the flat reduction value is modest on its own, it adds up significantly over the course of a prolonged fight.
The faint leaf symbol on the wall can be difficult to spot in the water's glare. If you are having trouble finding it, try visiting at a different time of day or adjusting your camera angle.
Remember to use a basic shovel for the dig sites. Upgraded shovels will not trigger the quest interactions.
This shield pairs well with rapier builds due to the stamina savings on guard. See the Damiane Rapier and Shield Build for build suggestions.
If you are building around Abyss Gear synergies, the Aegis I and Fortitude I modifiers on this shield complement armor pieces that further reduce stamina costs or boost damage reduction.
The Black Sun Shield can carry you through the mid-game comfortably, but you may want to upgrade to higher-tier options like the Shield of Conviction or Shield of Radiance for endgame content.
