Abyss Dungeons are floating island environments high above the continent of Pywel. They exist within the Abyss, the supernatural dimension whose growing imbalance sends fragments crashing into the world below. These dungeons are accessed via hot air balloons from specific locations on the surface.
Abyss Dungeons feature multiple types of puzzles, all emphasizing environmental interaction and creative problem-solving rather than combat:
The core puzzle mechanic involves telekinetic powers that let you grab, move, and place objects in the environment. This has been directly compared to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. You can manipulate floating platforms, ruin fragments, and environmental objects to create paths, bridges, and solutions.
Fragment-alignment puzzles require you to physically manipulate floating pieces of terrain, structures, and objects. Solutions are not always obvious and reward experimentation. Multiple solutions may exist for a single puzzle.
Platforming sections that test your movement skills. These require precise jumping, gliding, and use of traversal abilities to navigate between floating platforms and crumbling structures.
Puzzles that require understanding specific mechanics -- pressure plates, levers, moving parts, and environmental triggers. These are distinct from the telekinetic puzzles and test understanding of how the dungeon's systems work.
Puzzles that require studying the environment carefully. Pattern recognition, environmental awareness, and understanding how Abyss fragments interact with each other. These reward patience and attention to detail.
Beyond dedicated puzzle rooms, Abyss Dungeons feature platforming challenges throughout. Traversing the floating islands themselves requires jumping, gliding, and using grappling hooks to navigate the suspended terrain. Stamina management is important as the floating environments drain traversal stamina.
The dungeons contain unique enemies not found on Pywel's surface:
Teleporting assassins -- Fast, elusive enemies that blink around the arena.
Other Abyss-corrupted creatures (details pending launch documentation)
These enemies are generally tougher than surface-level enemies and may require specific strategies or elemental weaknesses.
Abyss Dungeons are one of the best sources of rare Abyss Artifacts for skill progression and stat upgrades. Completing dungeon challenges also yields:
Exclusive equipment pieces
Lore entries about the Abyss and its nature
Abyss Fragments for stat and skill progression
Abyss Dungeons contain fast travel points that expand your travel network. These connect to both the Abyss fast travel system and the surface of Pywel, allowing quick return to discovered locations.
After completing an Abyss Dungeon or at certain exit points, you can dive from the floating islands back down to the surface of Pywel. This is a seamless transition with no loading screen.
The Abyss Dungeons are tied to the game's central narrative about the Abyss threatening Pywel. Exploring them reveals lore about why the Abyss is expanding, who or what is behind it, and how it connects to the broader history of the continent.
