The monetization model has been addressed in the official FAQ and in community communications. The developers have been consistent: the game will use a traditional premium model with paid DLC rather than live-service monetization.
The qualifying phrase "it is too early to give a definite answer" reflects the game's pre-release status. Final business decisions may be influenced by the publisher, Behaviour Interactive, whose flagship title Dead by Daylight uses a different model (free-to-play with cosmetic monetization and a rift/battle pass system). The developers have made clear that Blight: Survival is not following that path.
The Behaviour Interactive partnership initially generated concern among fans about potential monetization changes. Dead by Daylight's cosmetic store and Auric Cells currency system are well-known, and some players worried that a similar approach might be applied to Blight: Survival.
The developers addressed these concerns directly by reaffirming the premium model. No in-game currency store, no season passes, and no cosmetic microtransactions have been announced or hinted at. The messaging has been consistent across the official FAQ, Discord communications, and press interviews.
Post-launch DLC expansions are the planned method for adding new content after release. The specific content of future DLC has not been detailed. Given the game's structure (mission-based runs into No Man's Land with varied environments and enemy types), DLC could take the form of new biomes, new enemy categories, new weapon types, or new story content.
The developers have also noted that firearms are not included at launch but "haven't been ruled out in post-release updates," suggesting that DLC may expand the weapon roster beyond the initial medieval arsenal.
As an Unreal Engine 5 title, Blight: Survival is subject to Epic Games' royalty terms. Co-founder Mads Christensen noted the favorable terms as a reason for choosing UE5: the engine charges a 5% royalty only after the game exceeds $1 million USD in revenue. Below that threshold, the engine is free to use.
