Initial article on publisher Fictions
Fictions is a video game publisher and developer formed in mid-2025 by former Annapurna Interactive employees. The company took over the portfolio of Take-Two Interactive's indie publishing label Private Division, which included Beast of Reincarnation (then known as "Project Bloom").
In September 2024, the entire staff of Annapurna Interactive resigned following disagreements with the company's owner, Megan Ellison. These experienced publishing veterans — who had built one of the most respected indie game labels in the industry — then sought to continue their work under a new structure.
Simultaneously, Take-Two Interactive sold Private Division to Austin-based private equity firm Haveli Investments in November 2024. Haveli struck a deal with the former Annapurna staff to fund a new company and place them in charge of the Private Division portfolio. This entity became Fictions.
Fictions comprises former Annapurna Interactive employees (veterans of indie publishing with a strong track record), former Private Division staff members, and industry veterans including Greg Rice (previously of PlayStation Indies and Double Fine). Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier confirmed the composition of the company and the deal structure.
Beast of Reincarnation (Game Freak) — AAA action RPG, releasing August 4, 2026.
LEGO Party — Announced at Summer Game Fest 2025.
Beast of Reincarnation was originally announced in May 2023 under Private Division as "Project Bloom." When Fictions inherited Private Division's portfolio, the game came with it. Fictions serves as the publisher for the final, renamed release. The transition from Private Division to Fictions did not appear to disrupt the game's development — Game Freak continued development throughout the corporate changes, and the game was revealed under the Fictions banner at the Xbox Games Showcase in June 2025.
