11Overview2233Bloom Arts are the special combat abilities used by Koo in Beast of Reincarnation. They represent the command-based half of the game's hybrid combat system, triggered through a dedicated command menu that slows time when opened. Bloom Arts are powered by FP, which Emma earns through successful parries during real-time combat.4455Their role is broader than damage. A Bloom Art can hurt an enemy, interrupt what an enemy is doing, or turn inward and apply a buff to Emma or restore her health. That last category is why the command menu functions as a recovery option in a fight rather than only an attack option, and it is part of why the game reads as forgiving to players who are not confident with pure action combat.6677The system blends two combat styles into one cohesive experience: Emma fights using sword-based actions in real time, while Koo battles by unleashing skills via commands. This creates a rhythm where fast-paced katana action seamlessly transitions into strategic command-based support and back again.8899Activation10101111The command menu for Bloom Arts can be opened at any time during combat using the Triangle button on PS5. When activated, time slows significantly but does not fully stop. The battlefield remains dynamic, maintaining tension while providing the player with strategic breathing room to assess the situation, review available abilities, and select the optimal Bloom Art.121213131414This design choice was deliberate. Director Furushima stated: "Rather than forcing players to rely solely on split-second reflexes in high-pressure situations, we wanted to create moments where you can pause, think carefully, and fight with a tactical mindset." The slowed-but-not-stopped time creates a decision window that rewards thoughtfulness without completely breaking the combat flow.15151616Each Bloom Art costs a certain amount of FP to activate. Since FP is generated through successful parries, aggressive defensive play directly fuels Koo's offensive capabilities. Players must decide which Bloom Art to use and when to use it, spending FP immediately for tactical advantage or saving it for a more critical moment.17171818Confirmed Effects19192020The following Bloom Arts effects have been confirmed through trailers, the Xbox Developer Direct show, and the PlayStation State of Play presentation:21212222TraitEffectFire DamageDeals fire-elemental damage to a single enemy. When combined with FP-generation mods, can partially refund its own cost.Multi-Target Destruction: Delivers high destructive damage across up to four enemies simultaneously, making it devastating against grouped foes.Crowd ControlGroups enemies together into a concentrated area, setting up area-of-effect opportunities for Emma's attacks.Aerial LaunchMakes enemies "jumpable," launching them into the air for Emma's air combo attacks. This creates opportunities for three-dimensional combat that leverages Emma's plant-ability toolkit.PoisonApplies poison damage over time to affected targets, providing sustained damage that pressures enemies even when Emma is dodging or repositioning.Aerial AssaultLaunches enemies skyward for follow-up attacks, functioning as a more offensive variant of the aerial launch.2323Mods24242525Bloom Arts can be enhanced with mods that provide additional effects layered on top of the base ability. Mods are central to the game's build-crafting system, allowing players to create synergistic combat cycles tailored to their playstyle. Confirmed mod effects include:26262727HP Regeneration, Restores health per hit while the modded Bloom Art is active, turning offensive abilities into sustain tools.FP Generation, Generates additional FP against burning enemies, creating a self-sustaining loop when combined with fire-based Bloom Arts.28282929These mods encourage thoughtful build-crafting and reward players who plan their ability loadouts. A fire-based Bloom Art modded with FP generation, for example, partially refunds the cost of its own activation when used against the right targets, creating an efficient cycle where Koo's fire attack generates the resources needed for his next ability.30303131Bloom Art Roster32323333Bloom Arts are unlocked by beating bosses and then bought with Skill Points in Koo's half of the skill tree. Each is named after the plant it calls up, and most have a second-tier version unlocked by a later rematch with the same boss.34343535Bloom ArtWhat it doesUnlocked byHiganbana: BloomCreates several higanbana blossoms that can be leapt to, which doubles as an escape route when surroundedAvailable without a boss unlockHiganbana: SeedsFires a burst of higanbana seeds; hitting an airborne enemy and following up staggers itAvailable without a boss unlockHiganbana: RootsExtends piercing roots that pull lighter enemies together for a group punishAvailable without a boss unlockSakura: JavelinThrows a sakura branch javelin that skewers a target. Each Bloom Art holds exactly one mod, and a mod cannot be attached to two arts at the same time, so a mod loadout is a set of one-to-one commitments rather than a stack of global buffs.41414242ModEffectStatus Effect AmpStatus effects build twice as fast on enemiesSwamp SummonerCreates a swamp at the target location that slows enemiesShocking VigorGrants Vigor against shocked enemiesMagmatic MantleGrants Fortitude against burning enemiesVital EyeRaises ranged power when exploiting an elemental weaknessPoison ExpertApplies Weaken against poisoned enemiesOdd AppetiteReturns FP per hit against enemies suffering from corrosionLast StandEmma's damage rises as her health fallsFull Bloom CritEvery hit counts as a critical while Full Bloom is activeFull Bloom RecoveryEmma recovers health per hit while Full Bloom is activeSprig SyncAfter a critical hit, the next skill costs only three FPPoison FusePoisoned enemies detonate in a fiery explosion when hitBattlebornForce-activates the equipped blade's special effectDual EdgeRaises damage sharply at the cost of maximum healthHealing EnergyClears Emma's status effects and their buildupResonanceRestores a point of Emma's Entanglement GaugeRoll of ThunderStagger damage rises with each lightning strike landed in the last minutePuppetChance to turn enemies into puppets; bound enemies are always affected4343Post-Launch Changes44444545Version 1.0.8 increased both the damage and the health recovery amounts of Bloom Arts across the board, which was the single largest combat balance change of the first two patches. The same update fixed a heavy performance drop that occurred when the End of the Line skill mod fired on Kiku: Bloom Strike. Version 1.0.7 had already fixed a bug where cancelling a Bloom Art left Emma unable to interact with anything.46464747Relationship to Emma's Combat48484949Bloom Arts do not exist in isolation. They are deeply integrated with Emma's real-time action combat. The system is designed so that each character's actions create opportunities for the other:50505151Emma's parries generate FP, fueling Koo's Bloom Arts.Koo's Bloom Arts create openings (launched enemies, grouped targets, debuffed foes) that Emma exploits.Emma's exploitation of those openings builds momentum for more parries and more FP.The cycle repeats, creating a collaborative combat rhythm between the two characters.52525353This integration means that mastering Bloom Arts is not separate from mastering Emma's katana combat. The two systems are two halves of a single, interconnected whole.54545555Design Philosophy56565757Director Furushima described Bloom Arts as the bridge between action and strategy: "The command menu for Koo can be opened at any time, allowing players to move seamlessly between action and command-based combat. Through this flow, Koo's presence is constantly felt by your side."58585959The system draws on Furushima's background in turn-based battle design, translating "the joyful dilemma of choice" from turn-based RPGs into a real-time action context. In a classic turn-based RPG, players carefully consider which move to select from a menu during battle. Bloom Arts recreate that same feeling of deliberate, strategic choice-making within the flow of fast-paced action: a hybrid that distinguishes Beast of Reincarnation's combat from purely reflex-driven action games.60606161The Bloom Arts system also contributes to the game's accessibility. By providing regular moments of slowed time where players can think strategically rather than react instantly, the command menu ensures that "even people who aren't good at action games can enjoy it," as Furushima stated. Players who struggle with the technical parry timing can still contribute meaningfully through smart Bloom Arts selection.
