When the Story Takes Place
Hero's Adventure: Another Tale picks up after the events of the previous title. In the aftermath of war, a new dynasty rises from the ashes, and with it comes a restless peace. Order has returned on the surface, but old grudges have not faded and fresh rivalries keep taking root. These tensions spread through a tangled web of factions, so the martial world remains as volatile as ever even as the wider land settles into a new era.
This sets the tone for the whole game. You arrive in a jianghu that is still raw from conflict, where every alliance and every feud carries the weight of recent history. For more on this martial world itself, see The Jianghu.
The studio has given a sense of how much time has passed. In a developer question-and-answer post it said the spin-off's story takes place several decades after the earlier game, with a handful of the old powers still traceable and most of them long since gone. That gap is why the wiki treats this as a fresh story with its own cast rather than a direct continuation, even though the era and the martial world are shared. The Relation to the Original Game page has the full comparison.
Who You Play

You take the role of a spirited youth from a well-off family, and you can choose a male or female protagonist at the start; either can be freely customized, including appearance and outfits. This is no hardened warrior at the outset but a young person unwilling to be confined to the study, drawn toward the open and ever-shifting martial world by a thirst for freedom. Leaving the comfort of home behind, the hero steps into the jianghu to make their own way.
The studio has not given the protagonist a personal name in public materials, and this page does not invent one. Unlike the earlier game's blank-slate drifter, this hero comes from somewhere: a sheltered start in a comfortable household is part of what makes the choice to wander feel like a real break from the path laid out at home. The studio has also cleared up a misreading from the demo: the story does not open with the hero's clan being wiped out. That impression came from the demo's limited length, and the full context of the opening is revealed by the end of Chapter 1.
A Journey That Is Yours Alone
The premise is built around freedom rather than a fixed destiny. There is no single hero's path waiting to be followed. You can uphold justice as a righteous hero, standing against wrongs in the martial world, or you can roam free as a carefree wanderer, beholden to no cause but your own. The journey is described as yours alone.
That freedom carries weight. Every choice you make shapes not only your own survival but also the fate of others, and may ripple all the way out to the destiny of the jianghu itself. The story is therefore less a straight line and more a series of crossroads, where what you decide matters. This is the heart of the game's branching design, explored on the Choices and Consequences page.
Story Structure
The studio's August 2026 update laid out the shape of the full story: a prologue followed by four main chapters, with an epilogue after the main story that explores what happens once the dust settles. Companion side stories and character events run through the whole journey, and the branching main path resolves into four Endings plus one True Ending. A single playthrough is expected to take around 20 to 30 hours.
What Has Not Yet Been Revealed

It is worth drawing a clear line around what is confirmed. The framing above, a post-war new dynasty, a web of factions, and a young protagonist seeking freedom, is established. The finer plot beats are not.

Relation to the Earlier Game
Because the story continues from where the previous title left off, players coming from the studio's earlier work will recognize the era and the spirit, even as this is a fresh journey with a new protagonist. The connections between the two games, what carries over and what stands apart, are covered on the Relation to the Original Game page.
