Catching wild Aniimo is a central activity in Aniimo, and it is done with devices called Aniipods. Rather than a guaranteed capture, catching is a test of timing and judgement that the game frames as a thrill in itself.
Pathfinders throw Aniipods to capture creatures, and can set traps and time their attempts for the best chance of success. The official description emphasises the uncertainty of every catch, so reading a creature's behaviour and choosing the right moment matters.
Which Aniimo appear is not fixed. Creatures show up according to the environment, the weather, ongoing phenomena, and the time of day, so exploring the world at different times and in different conditions turns up different companions. This makes discovery an ongoing part of building a collection.
Caught Aniimo join a Pathfinder's roster, where most can evolve into stronger forms. A pre-registration reward called the Aniipod Ultra has been shown among the game's items, hinting at variations on the basic catching tool. Specific catch rates and Aniipod tiers have not been detailed.
