Quantum Quirks

Initial version (2026-09-15)
Quantum Quirks develops and self-publishes Zeverland. Both the developer and publisher fields on the game's Steam page carry the same name, and no publishing partner has been announced. The studio is based in Shanghai, China, according to its own press material from November 2024.
The studio named itself publicly in a November 2025 community post, writing simply that the studio is called Quantum Quirks, and it signs its long-form letters with that name. Three community-facing first names have appeared in its posts: Travis, Jesus and Phoebe. Travis writes in the first person in the 2025-11-09 post. No surnames, roles or other personnel details have been published.
That same post described the team as "seven super-smart programmers, five tons of energy drinks, and three electric fans". The second and third items are obviously a joke, and the first is a passing boast inside that joke: it counts programmers, not staff, and should not be read as a headcount for the studio. Nothing first-party has been published about the studio's size, founding date, funding or prior work.
Quantum Quirks communicates in two registers. During a tech test it posts numbered daily dev logs, each pairing a player question and answer section with a bug status board. Between tests it publishes long community letters under the name Fireside Chat: the first on 2026-01-21, the second on 2026-08-03 under the title "A Home on Wheels, Bound for Tomorrow".
The register of those letters is unusually plain for a pre-release game. When the second tech test went badly, the closing post did not spin it.
None of this is what you should have had to bear. The fault is ours: our work left unfinished.
The same habit shows up in how the studio talks about the game's state. It has warned players that the build will not look like the trailers, describes itself as still learning, and on 2025-11-16 put the game at "about twenty percent of the full plan". When it decided against another test in August 2026 it framed the choice as a straight trade: one more week of testing means one less week of building content.
The studio runs an English-language community and a Chinese-language one, and they do not always receive the same information. English posts route everyone to Discord; the Chinese community runs through two QQ groups that the English track never mentions. Some figures only ever appeared on one side: the second test's participation numbers, for instance, were published in Chinese only.
The split explains an oddity in the November 2025 posts. Twenty extra test slots were added at the wishlist milestone, but the English announcement only describes ten of them, because the twenty were a ten plus ten split across different platforms by region.
Zeverland has no official Chinese name. The studio ran a naming contest from 2025-11-16 to 2025-11-20, offering ten full-version activation codes for the best submission, and has still not announced a winner. The Chinese name sometimes seen in the community is a fan coinage and is not official.
The pitch has moved considerably, and the studio's own words track the move better than any outside summary.
Date | The studio's description |
|---|---|
2024-11-24 | An "SOC game" built on squad cooperation and an interactive experience in which everything can be modified. |
2025-11-16 | About twenty percent of the full plan, with the studio still learning. |
2026-07-17 | "A co-op PVE survival-building game where everyone survives together." |
2026-08-03 | A buy-to-play game with official servers plus officially hosted private servers, described in detail on Servers and Multiplayer. |
The studio maintains an official site for the game in English with a Simplified Chinese sibling, though it is easy to miss because the Steam store page links to no website at all. Both official pages are built from images and carry no readable body text. Beyond that the studio is active on Discord, YouTube, X, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Bilibili, Douyin and Xiaohongshu.
It also rewards its community in kind. Dev Log #6, published on 2026-07-01 during the Second Pre-Alpha Tech Test, announced that the next update would be built around recreational vehicles and ran a screenshot contest whose ten winners received a direct pass to the official launch.
