Initial Standfast page covering Rare and Epic stack mechanics, use profile, and comparison to other bracings
Standfast is a Hull Modification for ships in Windrose, one of three Hull Bracings available in the live build alongside Keelhold and Iron Resolve. Standfast converts the incoming-damage flow into a stack-based absorption mechanic: stacks accumulate passively, and each incoming hit consumes one stack to reduce the hit's damage.

Defense | 100 at base tier (scales with Item Level) |
Tier | Effect |
|---|---|
Rare | Builds up to 5 Standfast stacks over time while out of combat. Each incoming hit consumes 1 stack and reduces that hit's damage by 25% for 3 seconds. Stacks regenerate during calmer stretches of combat when incoming damage pauses. |
Epic | Starts the engagement at a higher stack ceiling: 8 Standfast stacks total, built from the base 5 plus a 3-stack bonus. All other behavior is identical to the Rare tier. |
The Standfast plan is sold by the Smugglers of Port Royal Provisioner at Reputation Tier 2 for 300 Piastre. The player must first reach Rank 2 with the Smugglers by turning in Insignias or Letters of Favor through the Bounty Agent. After purchase, Standfast is crafted at the Shipwright's Workshop, the same station used for Keelhold and Iron Resolve.
Short burst engagements where the player expects to absorb one or two alpha-strike volleys and then either finish the target quickly or disengage. The pre-built stacks front-load the bracing's value into the opening seconds.
Hit-and-run playstyles that cycle in and out of combat. Each disengagement window lets the stacks rebuild, so the next engagement opens with the full absorption budget again.
Fighting Blackbeard patrol squads where the opening salvo is the highest-damage moment. Blackbeard Frigates that fire a 36-pounder volley on contact lose the first hit's full impact to the Standfast stack.
The Epic variant's 8-stack ceiling is particularly strong when paired with a fast Blackbeard Ketch loadout that favors strike-and-retreat over prolonged trades.
Standfast's main weakness is sustained fire. Once the stacks are consumed, the bracing provides no ongoing mitigation; it is effectively a non-upgraded 100-DEF bracing until the stacks rebuild. Prolonged Frigate engagements that never break contact favor Keelhold or Iron Resolve instead, because those two bracings contribute value throughout the fight rather than at specific stack moments.
