The Old Key is an antique key recovered from shipwrecks and silt-buried caches along the Windrose coast. It opens specific old wreck chests rather than living-camp doors. The flavor describes it precisely: "It smells of the sea, silt, and seaweed."

The Old Key is a tier-one chest key. It opens the rusted antique chests seeded inside Shipwreck hulls, sunken ruins, and beach-camp caches, not the locked doors or strongboxes found in living Pirate Camps. Walk up to one of those sealed wreck chests with at least one key in your inventory and the prompt to open it appears. The key is consumed the moment the chest opens, so one key clears exactly one chest.
Because it is the lowest tier of key, the Old Key never opens the higher-grade containers that need a Vault Key or a faction crew key. If a chest refuses an Old Key, it is gated behind one of those later keys instead. For the full picture of which key fits which container, see Chest Keys.
Old Keys are pulled from Shipwreck sites and seafloor caches, and they drop from the Drowned that haunt those wrecks. Diving spots near the Coastal Jungle reefs are the most reliable source. Some quest steps that send you to recover sunken cargo also reward Old Keys.
Hoard spares. A single dive often turns up several sealed wreck chests, so carrying a stack of keys saves a return trip. The Old Key stacks to 10.
Clear the Drowned first. The Drowned guarding a wreck both block the chest and drop more keys, so fighting through them tends to pay for the next chest you open.
Do not over-buy keys. Old Keys are common from coastal wrecks, so there is rarely a reason to spend currency on them when diving the Coastal Jungle reefs supplies them for free.
