The Last Letter closes Marcel Boucher's expedition story. The pirates have caught him. He is bleeding out and trying to leave a message for Henri before he dies. It is the final entry in the Marcel Boucher's Diary chain and one of the few lore notes in the game written in the moment of a character's death.

The pirates finally caught up with us. They must have taken me for dead, though I'll soon be for certain. Blood is pouring from my belly without end. I'm sure the others in the island's remaining ruins are dead as well.

How to Obtain

The Last Letter is a rare lore drop tied to the Buccaneers expedition that ended at the Destroyed Buccaneer Fort. It is pulled from the chest carried by an Old Skeleton at that site, at roughly a one percent chance per kill, so expect to clear the fort many times before it appears. As a lore item it cannot be crafted, bought from a vendor, or traded between the workers in your camp; the only path to it is the drop table. The note carries no combat or crafting use, so once collected it serves purely as a readable record and a quest-style trophy.

Lore Significance

The 'Henri' the dying Marcel addresses is Henri Boucher, a Buccaneers contact in the modern game timeline. The Last Letter is the player-side proof that Marcel was the leader of the expedition and that he died at the Destroyed Buccaneer Fort, rather than vanishing or turning on his own crew. It also confirms that the rest of the party was already dead by the time Marcel fell, which closes off the question of survivors raised by the earlier diary pages.

The diary chain reads in order as Marcel Boucher's Diary, then Page From Marcel Boucher's Diary, and finally the Last Letter. Read together they form one of the most complete narrative arcs in the lore loot system: a hopeful departure, a souring expedition, and a death scene. The Torn Hat recovered from the same stretch of ruins is usually treated as a physical relic of the same doomed party.
