The corruption is the dark force that drives the story of Wardens of Avalon. It has claimed the Knights of the Round Table, who have all fallen from their former glory, leaving their estates in ruins and the land of Avalon beset by dark forces. The player, as a Twilight Knight, is tasked with eradicating it once and for all.

This is a deliberately dark take on the Arthurian world. The setting suggests that even Arthur may not have been the legend the bards sang about, casting the familiar tale in a grimmer light. The fallen Knights of the Round Table now stand among the threats the player must face rather than the heroes of old.
Corruption is also woven into gameplay. A Twilight Knight can choose to assimilate corruption at their own risk to deal significant damage, turning the very thing plaguing Avalon into a dangerous tool. That tension, drawing on a destructive power while fighting to undo it, runs through the game's combat and its world.
