Initial comprehensive article creation
Karok is a half-giant who fights with a Battle Pillar — a massive stone or metal column that he swings like a weapon. He is the slowest character in the game and the hardest-hitting. Every attack lands with seismic force, and most of his skills can stagger enemies on impact, including larger bosses that shrug off hits from Lann or Fiona. He was first revealed for Defying Fate in April 2025 alongside Delia.
Karok's exclusive mechanic is the Clash. Where other characters dodge or block, Karok can directly contest an enemy's charge — he locks into a brief power struggle and forces the opponent back. No other character has anything like it. The Clash is Karok's identity: he doesn't avoid attacks; he meets them head-on.
His attacks are slow but each one matters. The Battle Pillar has enormous hitboxes and most swings hit multiple enemies. He excels in situations where enemies cluster together or where a single devastating hit matters more than sustained combo pressure. His playstyle revolves around smashing enemies to the ground, then following up with jumping attacks or skills that capitalize on their downed state.
Shoulder Check: A body slam that staggers nearby enemies and creates space.
Whirlwind: A spinning pillar attack that hits everything in a wide radius.
Kodiak Rush: A rushing charge attack that closes distance and hits hard on impact.
Earthquake: Karok slams his pillar into the ground, dealing massive AoE damage to everything nearby. One of the highest-damage skills in the game.
Karok is for players who want every hit to feel like it matters. He trades speed and finesse for raw destruction. His stagger output is the highest of any character, which means he fills boss Stagger Gauges faster and opens up Fatal Action windows more frequently. In co-op, a Karok player who keeps staggering the boss while teammates deal sustained damage is extremely valuable.
He can also take hits better than the other characters. His larger frame and half-giant constitution give him more resilience, so he doesn't need to dodge every single attack the way Lann does. That said, standing in a boss's combo string is still suicidal — Karok is tough, not invincible.
Speed. Karok's attack animations are long, his recovery frames are slow, and committing to the wrong attack at the wrong time leaves him exposed. Fast bosses with rapid attack strings can punish his slow startup. He also has limited mobility — no double-dodge, no dash, just a straightforward roll. Against enemies that require constant repositioning, Karok players need to pick their moments carefully.
