Overview
Ellis is a junior cadet from the Royal Army's training academy, currently stationed in Colhen in Vindictus: Defying Fate. He serves under Dame Gwynn as part of the kingdom's thin Royal Army presence in the village.
Young and inexperienced but earnest, Ellis carries himself with polite formality and sincere concern for the safety of others. He often assists with messages, field updates, and the administrative work of keeping communication flowing between the Crown and the village.
Personality
Ellis is polite to a fault. He defers to rank, asks before acting, and takes his duties seriously despite his inexperience. He does not have the temper of Marrec or the practiced composure of Captain Aodhan. His character lands somewhere in between: a kid trying to do well, in over his head, but committed.
In conversation he is formal where Marrec is blunt, and he tries hard to bridge the gap between the Royal Army's formal expectations and the mercenaries' more pragmatic approach.
Role in the Ainle Storyline
Ellis takes on a more central role when Ainle, the next major region in development, opens to the player. The January 2026 dev log positions him as a key narrative partner for that arc: the player uncovers the hidden truth of Ainle alongside Ellis, and his perspective on what happened to the city carries a lot of the storyline's emotional weight.
That gives him an unusually prominent role for a junior cadet. He starts the story as a minor messenger and grows into a meaningful companion for the Ainle investigation.

Notes
Ellis is a returning name from the original Vindictus. The 2010 version of the character had a defined arc tied to the Ainle storyline. Whether the Defying Fate reinterpretation follows the same path or takes the character somewhere new will become clear as the Ainle region rolls out; current public materials confirm his involvement but stop short of disclosing the full arc.
He appears in early dialogue alongside Royal Army NPCs in Colhen and is part of the standard cast players will encounter in the village.
