Outside the story Campaign, Tropico 7 offers standalone scenario missions and sandbox maps. Kalypso Media's feature list describes "Archipelagos, with the biggest islands ever in the series", expanded with 10 extra scenarios, more than 20 sandbox maps and a random map generator. The game is due on January 28, 2027, so everything on this page reflects pre-release announcements rather than the finished game.
Announced map content
Official material gives several headline figures for maps and missions. They come from the store feature list and from the "Tropico 7 in numbers" section of the official FAQ.

Content | Announced figure | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Campaign maps | 5 | Tell El Presidente's story; see Campaign |
Scenario missions | 10 at launch | Described as "10 extra scenarios" in the store feature list |
Sandbox maps | More than 20 | Store feature list |
Premade maps | Over 40 | FAQ: "Over 40 premade maps across various scenarios" |
Random map generator | Included | Store text promises "endless possibilities" with it |
Map size | "4 times bigger maps" | FAQ figure; the FAQ does not say what the comparison is against |
Island size | "the biggest islands ever in the series" | Store feature list |
As of October 2026, Kalypso has not published a breakdown of how the more than 40 premade maps divide between campaign, scenario and sandbox content, and it has not named any of the 10 scenarios or the sandbox maps.
Scenario missions
Scenarios are standalone missions, separate from the five-map campaign. The FAQ lists 10 scenario missions at launch. Scenarios can be set in different historical eras: the closed beta in spring 2026 included two scenario missions in the Cold War and Modern Times, alongside two campaign parts from the Colonial Times and the World Wars.
The closed beta was scheduled to begin on March 31, 2026 and run for two weeks on Steam and Xbox PC for a limited number of selected players under a non-disclosure agreement. It supported English and German text and was meant to gather feedback on core gameplay systems and political mechanics as well as the selected missions.
Sandbox play
The sandbox side of the game consists of more than 20 premade sandbox maps plus the random map generator.
As of October 2026, Kalypso has not described the options available in the random map generator, such as island count, map size or starting conditions, and has not said whether sandbox games can start in any era.
Archipelagos and island size
Tropico 7 is built around archipelagos rather than a single island. The store text asks players to "build your archipelago nation", and the official FAQ says the in-house Gaming Minds Engine was adapted for "large-scale archipelagos and complex simulations". Players can also change the shape of an island with Terraforming, which can level and raise terrain and reclaim land from the sea; the store copy goes as far as "create entirely new islands".
What the demo contains
The free Tropico 7 Demo, released on Steam on October 19, 2026 for Steam Next Fest, features the first campaign mission, "Little Great Britain". It is a campaign mission rather than a scenario or sandbox map. As of October 20, 2026, no scenario or sandbox map had been made publicly playable.
Shared maps in multiplayer
Multiplayer is not included at launch. Kalypso plans to add a four-player mode in a free post-launch update; a preview written in Penultimo's voice says each player will reign over their own version of the same island on one massive shared map. As of October 2026, no release date for that update has been announced.
