Shangguan Shuo (上官朔) is the player character of Tianji: Shadow of the Ancients. He belongs to the Tianji Guard, the Imperial Court's secret organization, although he does not remember that when the story opens. The game begins with him waking inside a stronghold of the Xuanxin Order holding two clues to his own identity: a Tianji Guard fish token and a strange mask.
Identity and Amnesia
The fish token is what gives him his name back. An early scene shown in official screenshots, in English and in Chinese, has him turn the token over, read the name carved on it and ask whether that is even who he is. The English line reads: "A token…? It says…Shangguan Shuo. I-is that me?"
Justdan's own description of the game says his fate may be deeply tied to the Xuanxin Order, and that he travels through the landscapes of Bashu and a millennium-old underground city while uncovering the conspiracy behind the Order.
Hands-on impressions of the September 2026 demo add more, and none of it appears on any surface Justdan itself has published, so it should be read as provisional. In that build he had been caught in a Xuanxin ritual that dominates the minds of its subjects and was pulled out before it completed, which left his sense of self intact but stripped most of his memories, including any awareness that he had served in the Tianji Guard. The same impressions describe an unidentified voice in his head that grows clearer as his memories come back.
In Battle
Shangguan Shuo is one of the playable characters in a party that fields at most three at a time. See Party and Companions for how the roster works and Combat for the systems themselves.
He fights with a sword, and demo impressions describe him channelling sword energy through it. The same coverage gives a worked example of the elemental combo system in which a fire-attribute arrow from Li Ling is followed by a water-attribute attack from Shangguan Shuo. That example comes from one hands-on account only; the underlying combo system is named by Justdan, the specific pairing is not.

Tianji was revealed on 8 September 2026 and no character sheet, profile page or cast list has followed. The following are open questions as of 12 September 2026, not settled absences.
