Bosses are the marquee encounters of The Hidden Ones, capping off chapters in the campaign and forming the core of the Trial boss rush. The names and lineup below come from test and demo builds, so they may be specific to those builds and could change before release.
Boss Design
In the campaign, bosses are chapter-themed: each one's mechanics and look reflect the part of the story it appears in. They are built to be learnable rather than one-shot walls. In test builds, a boss granted roughly five attempts, the player respawned at the point of death, and the boss's health persisted across those tries, so progress carried over. Some bosses were two-phase, shifting into a tougher second form partway through the fight.
These encounters lean on the full skill-based Combat System: reading color-coded attack tells, managing stamina, and timing dodges and parries all matter more against a boss than against ordinary enemies. The same bosses are reused in Trial Mode, where they scale up in difficulty as a back-to-back gauntlet.
Bosses Seen So Far
The encounters below have appeared in hands-on demos and test builds. Names may be build-specific and the roster of bosses is expected to grow.
Boss | Where Seen | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Ling Jiu | An early hands-on build | A boss faced in one of the first hands-on demos. |
Li Gaofeng | A showcased demo | A village leader whom Wang Ye sets out to challenge in the showcased demo storyline. |
The Unruly Monkey | A final-chapter playtest | A powerful enemy fought in the final chapter of the playtest, meant to test the skills learned across the game. |
The Abyss of Tao bosses | Trial in the pre-alpha test | Four legendary bosses, each with four difficulty levels, forming the test's Trial gauntlet. |
Enemy Types
Beyond the named bosses, the campaign throws a range of enemies at the player on the way to each fight. Among the foes shown are shadowy snake demons, supernatural creatures that fit the modern-day urban myth tone of the world. These rank-and-file enemies are the goons you brawl through before reaching a boss in Story Mode.
The Fulfilled Arc
The single largest enemy storyline shown so far is the Fulfilled. It is the in-game adaptation of a famous source arc and is presented as an enemy faction the player fights against, not a single boss. The faction is built around the Four Fulfilled Crazies of the Quanxing clan. For the full breakdown of who they are and how the arc is framed, see The Fulfilled. Whether any individual member is a standalone boss fight or part of a wider encounter has not been detailed, so it is documented as a confirmed enemy storyline rather than a fixed boss list.
