They worked cases together before the story starts, the player picks one as protagonist, and the other is killed at the story's opening, so the pair are two people rather than one character in two presentations. The Detective invites a character to visit the office, gives them gifts from the panel at the bottom right, and can summon them to tag along in a companion mode. If a character has not been invited in yet, they wait at the entrance instead.5252Gifts move Trust the fastest. Ordinary activity also counts: fighting alongside a character, exploring with them and eating together contribute up to 100 Trust a day between them. Each character has five Acquaintance levels, and what they unlock is character content rather than combat power, in the shape of short interactions, a personal letter and rendezvous scenes. In the second closed beta build the lower levels paid out Ounces and volumes of The Science of All Things, and level five paid a Standard Shot and 50 Reactor Crystals. Those reward values have not been published officially.5454Beyond the Second Beta5656An August 2026 promotional trailer showed the cast outside a test context for the first time since the reveal, with Firtho working a forensic examination, the female Detective investigating a neighbourhood, and Ashley, Gratia and Red Rose appearing through the combat sequences. Its closing teaser put several characters in the same enclosed space at once under the title House of Greed, which is the first indication that the roster will be used for something other than a single-player party. Nothing has been said about which characters that content supports.
