Resolved the team-size gap with the director's own figure, dated the 2024 reveal, added the ChinaJoy 2026 demo contents and the studio statement on the low-health fix, and recorded the stated benchmarks and development progress
Sword Sage: Awakening is the debut project of Chengdu Sword Panda Games, a small Chinese studio working with the publisher 4Divinity. This page collects what is confirmed about the studio, the people credited on the project, and the occasions on which the game has been shown or made playable in public. For the game itself, see Sword Sage: Awakening.
Sword Sage: Awakening has not released yet. It is listed as "Coming soon" with no confirmed date, so every detail below reflects pre-launch material and is subject to change before launch.
Chengdu Sword Panda Games was established in November 2022 and is based in Chengdu, in southwestern China. It registers as Chengdu SwordPandaGames Network Technology Co., Ltd., appears on storefronts as Sword Panda Limited, and is credited in Chinese as 成都剑猫熊网络. The studio describes itself as focused on high-quality single-player action role-playing games, and Sword Sage: Awakening is its first title.
The team has grown across the project. Coverage of the 2024 reveal described a seven-person studio; by the middle of 2026 the game director was describing it in interviews as a team of twenty-five. Both figures are accurate to their own moment, and neither is a current headcount published by the studio.
The studio has named the games it measures itself against. In 2024 it described the target as a mid-sized production in the mould of Sifu and Hi-Fi Rush, and the game director repeated the same two benchmarks in a 2026 interview. Coverage of the mid-2026 hands-on builds put development at roughly sixty percent, with occasional performance dips noted on the preview PC build.
The publisher's product page for the game credits four members of the studio's core team by name, with the industry experience each brings to the project.

|---|---|---|
Yuuki Yu | Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer | Credited with 18 years of experience, including work at TGBus, Tencent, Indielight and GamirrorGames before Sword Panda. |
Sam Wu | Game Director and Art Director | Credited with 15 years of experience, with prior work on Far Cry 3, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, The Division and F.I.S.T.: Forged in Shadow Torch. |

Liang Shuwen | Narrative and Level Designer | Credited with 15 years of experience, including Skull and Bones, UNO, the Might & Magic series and Toy Soldiers: War Chest. |
Sam Wu has also been referred to as the game's producer in pre-launch interviews. The studio's own page gives his title as game director and art director, and that is the form used here.

The game has been shown publicly since 2024, first as footage and later as builds the public could play. The show-floor demos are the source of most of what is known about how the game actually plays, and none of them has been released as a download.
When | Occasion | What was shown |
|---|---|---|
20 July 2024 | First gameplay footage | The reveal, carried by a sixteen-minute gameplay video and accompanied by the studio's own explanation of the signature technique. Announced under the longer Chinese title that was later shortened. |
August 2025 | gamescom 2025, Cologne | A playable booth demo, at Hall 10.1, booth A060. The studio also gave a developer presentation about the game's design at the show. |
June 2026 | Media preview event, Shanghai | A roughly three-hour hands-on build given to press and video creators, the source of most published impressions of the combat systems. |
26 June 2026 | Story trailer | The current trailer, released alongside a set of store screenshots. |
July 2026 | BilibiliWorld 2026, Shanghai | A thirty-minute hands-on demo at the Shanghai National Exhibition and Convention Center, hall 4.1H, booth 4A14, alongside a timed boss challenge and booth giveaways. |
31 July to 3 August 2026 | ChinaJoy 2026, Shanghai | A booth demo at stand N1G102, with a challenge giving players fifteen minutes to defeat the boss 猿公 (Yuangong) for a limited prize, plus booth giveaways. The build ran a complete mission containing two bosses, and opened a hidden area with a much harder hidden boss once the mission was finished. |
The boss challenge run at these events pits the player against 猿公 (Yuangong), the figure the Yuangong Sect is named for. After ChinaJoy 2026 the studio said it had collected player feedback at the booth and would continue polishing the game, and it has not announced a release window since.
A recurring red panda character serves as the studio's mascot for these events and appears in the game itself at its rest points. It is named 绯头子 in Chinese.
The show circuit has fed back into the design. Reporting from the ChinaJoy 2026 floor recorded a clear complaint, that with no roll and no backstep a player at low health has no way to break contact and heal, and recorded the studio's answer alongside it: the fix is already finished and will arrive in a later build. That is the only change to the combat design the studio has committed to publicly since the previews.
The studio has not announced a release date, a release window, or any platform beyond PC. Team size has been reported inconsistently and is not confirmed. Nothing has been said publicly about a downloadable demo, post-launch content, or pricing. See platforms and release for the confirmed platform and language details, and combat system for what the playable builds have shown of the game's mechanics.
