STAR WARS Zero Company is played with a mouse and keyboard or with a controller, and the default schemes for all three input devices are published. Because a turn moves through distinct states, the same key often does different work depending on whether you are looking at the battlefield, aiming an ability, or sighting down the over-the-shoulder view. The tables below are the defaults. See Turn-Based Combat for what the actions themselves do and Action Points for what each one costs.
Mouse and Keyboard
The keyboard scheme splits into four contexts: camera control, the ordinary non-targeting state, the targeting state while a shot or an ability is being aimed, and the over-the-shoulder view.
Context | Action | Default Binding |
|---|---|---|
Camera | Pan forward, left, back, right | W, A, S, D |
Camera | Rotate left, rotate right | Q, E |
Camera | Zoom out | Shift |
General | Select next Operator | Tab |
General | Select previous Operator | Ctrl |
Non-targeting | End turn | Space (hold) |
Non-targeting | Toggle Ability Info | T |
Non-targeting | Hotkey abilities | 1 through 0 |
Targeting | Select or confirm | Space |
Targeting | Cancel | Right click |
Over-the-shoulder | Select or confirm | Space |
Over-the-shoulder | Cycle enemy target | Tab |
Over-the-shoulder | Previous target | Ctrl |
Over-the-shoulder | Toggle Shot Breakdown | T |
Over-the-shoulder | Inspect unit | F |
Three keys carry across contexts rather than being rebound state by state. Space confirms in targeting and in the over-the-shoulder view and ends the turn when nothing is being aimed, which is why ending a turn is a hold rather than a tap. T switches between showing ability information and showing the Shot Breakdown depending on where you are. Tab and Ctrl cycle forward and backward through Operators outside a shot and through enemy targets inside one.
Xbox Series X|S Controller

Inspect unit | X |
End turn | Y (hold) |
Select previous Operator | LB |
Select next Operator | RB |
Zoom out | LT |
Toggle Shot Breakdown | RT |
Toggle Ability Info | View |

PlayStation 5 Controller

End turn | Triangle (hold) |
Select previous Operator | L1 |
Select next Operator | R1 |

Toggle Shot Breakdown | R2 |
Toggle Ability Info | Touch pad |

The two pad layouts are the same scheme under different labels. The face buttons handle confirm, back and inspect, the shoulder buttons cycle Operators, the triggers hold the two camera and information controls, and ending a turn is a held button on both. There is no separate handheld layout, since the game is not supported on Steam Deck, SteamOS or Steam Machine. See System Requirements.
Remapping
Buttons can be remapped. On PC that covers both the controller layout and the mouse and keyboard layout, and on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S the controller layout can be remapped as well, so none of the defaults above is fixed. The PC build ships with partial controller support on Steam, which in practice means a pad plays the game while the interface is still designed around a mouse and keyboard.
What the Information Keys Do
Four of the bindings exist to read the battlefield rather than to act on it. Toggle Shot Breakdown opens the panel that splits a Chance-to-Hit percentage into the parts that made it, which is the difference between taking a shot and knowing why it is worth taking. Inspect unit opens the detail view on whatever is currently targeted. Toggle Ability Info expands the description of the ability in hand. Zoom out pulls the camera back for a wider read of the space, which matters on maps built around drops, railings and destructible cover.
Input Fixes in Patch 1.1
Several input problems were corrected in the September 9, 2026 update, so a launch-week impression of how the controls behave may already be out of date:
Cone attacks snapped incorrectly when aimed on a mouse and keyboard.
The astromech ability Enhanced Scanners returned an Invalid Target message on a controller.
The Weapon Mods tutorial can now be closed with Back.
The camera drifted while an ability was being aimed, and wobbled on entering the over-the-shoulder view.
Spamming input during the intro cinematic could softlock the main menu.
See Patch History for the full update record and Known Issues and Bugs for what players still report.
