The Drill

The drill is the weapon that most defines the game's tone. The publisher's English announcement copy lists it as a drill-arm, named in the same breath as samurai swords, THE 'MERICAN FLAG and guns galore, which puts it among the handful of options the game presents as characteristic rather than as one entry on a list. The three-category framing on Weapons places it outside both melee and firearms, in the group NEKCOM calls other strange contraptions.

The creative director said in 2024 interviews that the drill's design comes from the giant-robot anime he grew up on, naming Getter Robo's Getter-2 and GaoGaiGar's Broken Magnum specifically, and calling GaoGaiGar his favourite. That is a first-party statement about his own influences, not a claim about the game's fiction: nothing has been published about where the drill comes from inside the story, and the popular reading that traces it to a different giant-robot series is not what he said. His influences are covered on Development History.
In the build shown at gamescom 2026 the drill was slow to start up, long to recover from, and low in attack frequency, which made every swing a commitment. In exchange it covered both close and long range, with single-target critical hits, long piercing thrusts that ran through several enemies in a line, wide sweeps, and an air-to-ground slam. Alongside the flagpole it had the widest reach in the build, so it was one of the two options used for crowd control and for staggering groups. Break Gauge and Executions covers how staggering works.
The developers said the demo had its parameters adjusted and that its system details do not represent the finished game, so none of that is a balance statement. No damage figures, reach measurements or animation timings have been published for the weapon, and Combat gives the system it sits in.
There is a second drill in the game that is not a weapon at all. Choko's RV carries one mounted on its front, and the vehicle is lettered Guren Express along its side. That machine is covered on The Guren Express.
