Initial version (2026-09-08)
Orbtopia is the hub of Sea of Remnants and, in the game's own framing, an island at the centre of the world. It is described as the liveliest pirate city on the sea, the place every voyage departs from, and the place every failed voyage ends up when the tide carries it back. It is also the location that visibly changes as a result of what the player does.
Orbtopia is where Errants come round after a shipwreck, with their skills lost, before setting out again without hesitation. Encounters there are described as constant, and the challenges as unlike anything found at sea. The city's residents are described as living a recurring existence on the edge of forgetting, which places Orbtopia at the centre of the game's memory themes. See Story and Setting.
Practically, Orbtopia is the maintenance and preparation stage of the voyage loop.
Repair your ship after a voyage.
Upgrade gear and prepare for the next departure.
Spend the treasure you brought home.
Reconfigure crew classes and builds before setting out again.
The other half of the city is deliberately unproductive. The developers have called slacking off the true profession of Orbtopia's pirates, and list fishing, cooking, music, mahjong and alchemy among the things captains do instead of working. See Minigames.
First party descriptions of Orbtopia after dark are unusually specific. Oil sizzles from street stalls, coin pouches jingle from another lucky trade, and someone has just lost their last chip at the mahjong table. Tackleboxes snap shut with a clatter while somebody glares green-eyed at a luckier angler. Cats rule the alleys. Roosters itch to set sail. A pirate gorilla is rising from obscurity. A parrot translates between beast and man. The summary the developers use is that Orbtopia breathes noise, spice and a little chaos.
Orbtopia's best known band is Ranbo, described as the city's wildest rock stars. Ranbo is simultaneously one of the six fleets on the sea, and its performing lineup includes the tailor Molly on bass and the musician Haig on keys. The band performed at a convention appearance in August 2026. See Crewmates and Ships and Fleets.
Orbtopia is not a static hub. Every announcement since the reveal has tied the city's development to player choice: befriending, provoking or removing key figures shifts political dynamics, and the cityscape is described as evolving in response. The design promise attached to this is that every soul you bring home reshapes the world you return to, and that no two captains end up with the same city.
Two further port names have been mentioned without description. Port Op and Broke Dockyard were referred to as places alpha testers remember, with Broke Dockyard described as where they first set sail. Whether either is part of Orbtopia or a separate location has not been stated.
A district map, or any account of how the city is laid out.
Which choices drive the city's evolution, and how far it goes.
Named services, shopkeepers and facilities.
Whether Port Op and Broke Dockyard are districts of Orbtopia or separate places.
What the Errants are, in terms the game states rather than implies.
Whether the pirate gorilla and the translating parrot are characters, creatures or both.
