Overview
Sound Speed Dog (音速犬), known in the competitive community as Fire Dog (火狗), is a Fire-type spirit that combines explosive first-turn physical burst with the unique ability to serve as a rideable mount. Starting as Guardian Dog, this line evolves into one of the most versatile spirits in the game: a top-tier PVP attacker that also doubles as a land mount for overworld traversal.
Sound Speed Dog is one of four core spirits in the canonical high-winrate Master-rank PVP team, and its Focus trait makes it one of the most dangerous first-turn threats in the entire game. Its evolution into Storm War Dog at Lv80 pushes it into endgame power levels.

Evolution Chain
Stage | Name | Chinese | Level |
|---|---|---|---|
Base | Guardian Dog | 护主犬 | Starting form |
Stage 2 | Sound Speed Dog | 音速犬 | Lv26 |
Final | Storm War Dog | 风暴战犬 | Lv80 |
Guardian Dog evolves into Sound Speed Dog at Lv26, which is when the spirit also becomes rideable as a land mount. The final evolution into Storm War Dog requires reaching Lv80, representing a significant time investment that pays off with substantially increased stats and expanded capabilities.
Stats
Sound Speed Dog (Stage 2)
Stat | Value |
|---|---|
HP | 85 |
Physical Attack | 128 |
Magic Attack | 46 |
Physical Defense | 101 |
Magic Defense | 82 |
Speed | 120 |
Total | 562 |
The defining stats are Physical Attack (128) and Speed (120). This combination means Sound Speed Dog hits hard and hits first. The 101 Physical Defense provides reasonable durability against physical threats, while the low Magic Attack (46) confirms that this is purely a physical attacker. HP at 85 is below average, reflecting the glass-cannon nature of the spirit.
Guardian Dog (Base Form)
Even in its base form, Guardian Dog has 96 Speed, which is leading among same-tier spirits. This early speed advantage makes Guardian Dog effective from the moment it is captured, allowing it to outpace opponents right away.
Trait: Focus (专注力)
Sound Speed Dog's signature trait is Focus (专注力). On the first turn after entering the field, Sound Speed Dog's physical attack is doubled (+100%). This means the already impressive 128 Physical Attack effectively becomes 256 for the opening strike.
Focus makes Sound Speed Dog one of the most dangerous lead spirits in the game. The doubled attack on turn one creates an enormous first-strike threat that can knock out or severely damage almost any opponent before they have a chance to respond. In PVP, this trait defines Sound Speed Dog's role: it enters, delivers a devastating opening blow, and sets the momentum for the rest of the match.
The trait only applies to the first turn after entering the field. If Sound Speed Dog is switched out and back in, the trait reactivates, allowing for repeated burst damage through strategic switching.
Key Moves
Skill | Learn Level | Type | Category | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Wild Bite | Lv1 | Dark / Physical | Physical | Dark-type physical attack; available from the start |
Critical Shot | Lv10 | Fire / Special | Special | Fire-type special attack with a chance to inflict Burn |
Thunder Fang | Lv16 | Electric / Physical | Physical | Electric-type physical attack with a chance to inflict Paralysis |
Last Resort | Lv25 | Tactical | Tactical | Strategic utility move for tactical situations |
Fire Blade | Lv28 | Fire | Physical | Powerful Fire physical attack; provides burst damage and sustain |

Fire Blade (learned at Lv28) is the signature damage move, combining raw burst power with sustain utility. When used on the first turn with Focus active, Fire Blade's damage is nearly doubled, making it one of the highest single-hit damage instances in early-to-mid game PVP. Thunder Fang at Lv16 provides important Electric-type coverage with a Paralysis chance, while Wild Bite offers Dark-type coverage from the very start.
Recommended Natures
Nature selection for Sound Speed Dog should protect its two key stats: Physical Attack and Speed.
Nature | Boost | Reduction | Reasoning |
|---|---|---|---|
Naughty | +Physical Attack | -Magic Defense | Maximizes physical damage output |
Lonely | +Physical Attack | -Physical Defense | More attack at the cost of bulk |
Hasty | +Speed | -Physical Defense | Ensures moving first against more opponents |
Naive | +Speed | -Magic Defense | Speed boost without sacrificing Physical Attack |
All four recommended natures either boost Physical Attack or Speed while reducing a less critical stat. Since Sound Speed Dog is designed to enter, deal massive first-turn damage, and either finish the opponent or switch out, defensive stats are less important than maximizing offensive output and speed.
Combat Milestones
Sound Speed Dog reaches key effectiveness thresholds at specific levels:
Lv10: Can challenge the Grass badge. Fire-type advantage combined with decent base stats makes this a manageable early challenge.
Lv25: Capable of suppressing Water, Earth, and Fire badge bosses. By this point, the moveset includes enough coverage to handle multiple type matchups.
Lv26: Becomes rideable as a land mount, adding overworld utility alongside combat prowess.
Mount Role
Sound Speed Dog becomes a rideable land mount upon reaching Lv26 and evolving from Guardian Dog. As a mount, it provides:
180 base movement speed for overworld traversal, making it one of the faster early-game mounts.
Post-evolution burst: +50% movement speed temporarily, activatable for quick sprints across the map.
The dual role as both a competitive PVP spirit and a functional mount makes Sound Speed Dog one of the most practical spirits in the game. Players who invest in raising it get both a top-tier battler and a reliable mode of transportation. For more information on mounts, see the Mounts article.
Master-Rank PVP Team
Sound Speed Dog (Fire Dog) is one of four core spirits in the canonical high-winrate Master-rank PVP team:
Swan (support/disruptor pivot)
Sound Speed Dog (Fire Dog, first-turn physical burst)
Demon Wolf (Dark-type aggression)
Iron Beast (buff counter)
In this team, Sound Speed Dog typically leads or enters early to capitalize on Focus's doubled attack. After Swan (Emerald-Crown Lady branch) passes its accumulated buffs, Sound Speed Dog receives the buff package on top of Focus's innate doubling, creating a first-turn damage output that can one-shot most opponents. Even without Swan's buff transfer, the Focus trait alone makes Sound Speed Dog a credible lead threat.
Capture Location
Guardian Dog can be captured on the west hillside of Commercial Street. This is an early-game area accessible shortly after the tutorial, making Guardian Dog one of the first strong spirits available to new players. Its accessibility combined with its competitive viability makes it an excellent early investment.
Tips
Focus reactivates every time Sound Speed Dog enters the field. In PVP, switch it in and out strategically to get multiple doubled-attack first strikes throughout a match.
Fire Blade at Lv28 is the key damage skill. Rush to this level as quickly as possible to unlock Sound Speed Dog's full offensive potential.
Guardian Dog's 96 base Speed is excellent for its tier. Even before evolution, it outspeeds most early-game opponents.
The mount role at Lv26 means you get a usable mount slightly before Fire Blade at Lv28. Sound Speed Dog pulls double duty as your primary mount and primary battler in the mid-game.
In PVP, consider leading with Sound Speed Dog to take advantage of Focus on the very first turn of the match. A doubled-attack Fire Blade can set the tone for the entire battle.
