11Overview2233The player character in Pokemon Pokopia is a Ditto (Pokedex #047, Normal type, Transform specialty). Unlike ordinary Ditto, this one possesses the unique ability to maintain a stable human form indefinitely. After emerging from an old Poke Ball in the Withered Wasteland, it discovers a discarded Pokedex containing a photograph of a Pokemon Trainer alongside a Ditto. Upon seeing the image, Ditto copies the form of the trainer, setting out to restore the desolate world under the guidance of Professor Tangrowth.4455Backstory6677Not much is known about Ditto's life before the start of Pokemon Pokopia. It appears to have been captured at some point, as it emerges from a Poke Ball at the beginning of the game. Its human form is deliberately modeled after a trainer it cared for. The relationship between Ditto and this lost trainer forms one of the game's emotional through-lines: Ditto chose to mimic the shape of someone it misses, carrying that memory forward as it works to rebuild the world.88991010Ditto is capable of understanding the speech of all Pokemon. By listening to the wants and needs of the Pokemon on each island, Ditto uses its power of mimicry to create habitats that suit each resident. This emotional intelligence sets it apart from a regular Ditto and drives the entire gameplay loop of building, befriending, and restoring.11111212Transform Abilities13131414Ditto's core mechanic in Pokopia revolves around learning moves from befriended Pokemon. Rather than combat attacks, these moves function as environmental tools. Ditto physically transforms parts of its body when using a move: its arms become Squirtle-shaped cannons for Water Gun, its claws extend like Scyther's blades for Cut, and its arms sprout into Bulbasaur's vines for Leafage. Most transformations are partial (only the relevant body parts change while the human form is maintained), but some moves trigger full-body transformations.15151616Moves are switched using a power wheel similar to a tool ring (comparable to Animal Crossing's power wheel). Each move consumes PP from the blue gauge at the bottom-right of the screen. When PP runs out, Ditto becomes fatigued and must eat food or berries to recover.17171818All 14 Moves19192020MoveTeacherAreaFunctionTransformationWater GunSquirtleWithered WastelandSpray water in + pattern; revitalize ground, water cropsArms become Squirtle cannonsLeafageBulbasaurWithered WastelandGrow tall grass; create plant patches on land and waterArms sprout into Bulbasaur vinesCutScytherWithered WastelandChop trees, grass, and wood piles for resourcesClaws extend like Scyther bladesRock SmashHitmonchanWithered WastelandPunch through soft terrain; hold ZR for continuous useFists become rocky and hardenedRototillerDrilburWithered WastelandTill soil for farming; relocate plants intactPartial transformationJumpMagikarpWithered WastelandPress R to jump; increases mobilityNo visible transformationSurfLaprasBleak BeachSwim on water; PP drains while activeFull-body: becomes mini LaprasCamouflageZoruaBleak BeachTransform into nearby objects for Hide-and-SeekFull transformation into objectSuck Up LiquidsPaldean WooperBleak BeachUpgrade to Y-button vacuum; extracts water, mud, hot springsPartial transformationStrengthMachokeRocky RidgesPush heavy blocks and objectsArms develop muscular appearanceRolloutGravelerRocky RidgesRoll at high speed; destroys blocks fastFull-body: becomes rolling GravelerGlideDragoniteSparkling SkylandsAerial gliding after jumping; press R mid-airFull-body: becomes mini DragoniteMagnet RiseMagnemitePost-gameFly vertically; place and absorb blocks in mid-airFull-body: becomes Magnemite shape2121Full-Body Transformations22222323Most moves only alter specific body parts while maintaining Ditto's human appearance. Four moves trigger full-body transformations where Ditto takes on a complete (but comically small) Pokemon form:24242525MoveDescriptionSurf (Lapras)Ditto becomes a tiny, adorable version of Lapras that floats across water surfaces.Rollout (Graveler)Ditto curls into a Graveler shape and rolls at high speed. Ditto becomes a Magnemite shape that can fly vertically and manipulate blocks mid-air, making it invaluable for late-game building.2626Skill Upgrades Through Food27272828Several of Ditto's moves can be temporarily powered up by eating specific cooked meals:29293030Food TypePowered MoveEffectSoupWater GunIncreased spray range and coverageBreadCutExtended cutting range; chop more at onceHamburger SteakRock SmashTemporarily punches through hard materialsSaladLeafageCreates duckweed on water surfaces, moss and vines on rocks, and grows grass in a 5-tile pattern3131Character Customization32323333At the start of the game, players choose from 7 base hairstyles and 28 hair color shades for their Ditto's human form.
