Photo Mode is a built-in capture tool in Onimusha: Way of the Sword that freezes the action so a shot can be composed and adjusted before it is taken. It is opened from the System Menu during gameplay.
What It Does
With Photo Mode active, Musashi Miyamoto cannot be moved, but the camera can be repositioned and re-angled freely around him. The mode is built for framing environments and set-piece moments rather than for directing the character, so the usual approach is to stop at a composition worth keeping and then work the camera around it.
Aspect | Behaviour |
|---|---|
Opening it | System Menu, then Photo Mode |
Character control | Locked. Musashi cannot be moved while the mode is active |
Camera control | Position and angle are both adjustable |
Customisation | Captured shots can be adjusted before saving |
Availability | Not available in every scene, and some functions are restricted in certain scenes |
Where Screenshots Are Saved
Photo Mode composes the shot but does not itself write an image file. The actual capture uses the screenshot function of whichever machine the game is running on, and the resulting file is stored in that device's own storage rather than inside the game's save data. Nothing captured in Photo Mode travels with a save file, so shots taken on one platform stay on that platform.
Scene Restrictions
Capcom flags two separate limits rather than one. There are scenes where Photo Mode cannot be opened at all, and there are scenes where it opens but with reduced functionality. Neither set is published, so in practice the mode is best treated as available during ordinary exploration and combat and unreliable during scripted sequences.
The distinction matters for boss encounters in particular: the fights themselves are ordinary gameplay, but the cinematic framing that bookends several of them falls into the restricted category.
