Surf Breaker

Initial version (2026-08-26)
Surf Breaker is a watercraft racing activity added in Version 1.3 "Rising from the Moonlit Fog" on August 19, 2026. It runs single-player timed courses across the waterways around Hethereau, and its event window closes on September 30, 2026 at 05:59 (UTC+8).
The mode is built around the Tide, the game's first water vehicle, which arrived in the same update. Version 1.3 framed the activity with the line "Race the sea breeze under the blazing summer sun!" In practice it is a checkpoint race against a timer rather than a head-to-head contest.
Open the event screen to see which courses are currently active. Not all of them are available on day one.
Travel to the entry location for the course you want. Each one starts somewhere different.
Talk to the Course Manager waiting there to pick a difficulty and preview that tier's rewards, then start the challenge.
Race through every checkpoint before the timer expires. Checkpoints are square zones, not single points, so entering the visible area around the marker counts.
Rewards drop the moment you clear a stage. There is no separate claim screen to visit afterward.
On the results screen, Next Difficulty jumps straight into the following tier. Tiers are cleared in order, so a harder one cannot be reached before the ones below it.
Five courses make up the full set. Three of them unlocked on a staggered schedule over the first days of the version rather than opening together.
Course | Availability |
|---|---|
"Horn Bay Route" | Open from the start of the event |
"Cape Dome Circuit" | Open from the start of the event |
"Stellar Marina Route" | Unlocked August 19, 2026 at 22:30 (UTC+8) |
"M10 Circuit" | Unlocked August 20, 2026 at 22:30 (UTC+8) |
"Sunward Island Circuit" on Sunward Island | Unlocked August 21, 2026 at 22:30 (UTC+8) |
Clearing inside the time limit is only half of it. Two collectibles are scattered along every route and feed the score that sets your clear rating.
Collectible | Points | Where It Sits |
|---|---|---|
Pig | 20 | One under the middle of each gate |
Duck | 5 | Lining the path between gates |
Because a pig is worth four ducks and sits directly on the racing line, hitting every pig is usually enough on its own to meet a stage's score target. Ducks are the overflow option when there is time to spare.
The event screen carries a Friendly Race option in its bottom right corner, which sets up a race with friends rather than a solo timed run.
Aim for the pigs under the gates first. They are on the line you are already taking, so they cost almost no time.
Raise Draw Distance in the display settings. Spotting pigs and ducks earlier gives you more room to plan the approach into each gate.
Do not chase the pin in the center of a checkpoint. Cutting through the edge of the square counts and keeps your speed up, while steering to the exact marker bleeds it.
If you only want the currency rewards rather than a high rating, skip the collectibles entirely and hold a clean line through the checkpoints.
Clearing stages pays out on the spot. The confirmed reward set is below, and no dedicated event currency or exchange shop has surfaced for this activity, so payouts appear to be per-challenge rather than banked and spent later.
