Incantation is one of the six Esper elements in Neverness to Everness. It sits between Anima and Chaos in the Esper Cycle, forming two key Duo Reactions: Hexed (with Anima) and Scorch (with Chaos). Incantation characters specialize in sustained damage, damage-over-time effects, and debuff application, making them essential for teams that rely on continuous pressure rather than single bursts.
The element's color identity is a vibrant pink-red (#fc4766), and its characters often draw on themes of language, curses, and mystical rites. All three current Incantation Espers belong to factions connected to the Bureau of Anomaly Control or the Eibon Antique Shop.
As of launch, three playable Espers carry the Incantation element. Two are S-Class and one is A-Class. Each brings a distinct combat role and a unique Esper Cycle Passive that enhances Scorch-related effects even while off-field.
Character | Rank | Role | Arc Type | Faction | Esper Cycle Passive |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
S-Class | Main DPS / DoT | Bose | Bureau of Anomaly Control, ETD-4 | Applies a second stack of Scorch when generating a Power Word on a Scorch-affected target | |
S-Class | Control / DoT Support | Gas | Increases DoT taken by enemies by 25% for each DoT type affecting them (max 100%) | ||
A-Class | Survival / Shield / DoT | Bose | Applies a random debuff alongside Scorch: -20% ATK, -10% Esper Res, or +10% Break Efficiency |
Baicang is the Captain of ETD-4 at the Bureau of Anomaly Control, described as laidback but prone to mischief. In combat he operates through a Power Word system that generates three types of words: Bless (single-target damage plus HP restoration), Silence (high single-target damage), and Objurgate (AoE damage). His Ultimate, Judgment of Autumn, creates a 12-second domain that deals continuous Incantation damage and executes targets below 10% HP (5% for bosses). Each Power Word triggered inside the domain produces a different bonus effect, and his passive ensures that Power Words applied to Scorch-afflicted enemies inflict a second Scorch stack, doubling the DoT pressure.
Sakiri is a quirky employee at the Eibon Antique Shop accompanied by Kiroumaru, a monstrous and gluttonous Anomaly companion. Her kit revolves around crowd control and DoT amplification. Her Skill, Devour Whole, pulls enemies together and knocks them down, while the hold variant levitates non-boss targets. Her Ultimate, Feast of Gluttony, fires six instances of Incantation damage and suppresses enemies for 3 seconds (6 seconds at Awakening 1). Her passive, "Can I Eat This?", boosts all DoT damage the target receives by 25% per active DoT type, stacking up to 100%. This makes her one of the strongest DoT enablers in the game, especially in Scorch-focused compositions.
Adler is the butler at the Eibon Antique Shop, known for his calm and dependable nature. As an A-Class Esper, he is more accessible than Baicang or Sakiri and fills a survival-oriented role. His Skill, Evil's Bane, summons a Sunya that deals area Incantation damage with DoT application while granting the team a shield called Blessing. He builds Karma stacks (up to 20), with each stack consumed increasing skill damage by 2%. His Ultimate, Tranquility, deploys five Sunyas that each strike all enemies, and against solo targets the damage doubles (10 instances). His Esper Cycle Passive applies one of three random debuffs alongside Scorch: -20% ATK, -10% Esper Resistance, or +10% Break Efficiency. At Resonance 6, Adler grants the team 10% Incantation damage while protected by Blessing.
Incantation participates in two Duo Reactions within the Esper Cycle. Both reward sustained pressure and work best in teams that can maintain continuous elemental application.
Hexed triggers when Anima and Incantation elements are applied to the same target. It releases a burst of bonus Unison damage based on the total elemental damage the target has taken over the preceding 12 seconds. Unlike reactions that deliver instant payoff, Hexed rewards clean sequencing and prolonged pressure: the more elemental damage you deal before the reaction pops, the larger the burst.

Enhancement | No character-specific Enhancement exists for Hexed at this time |
Hexed pairs naturally with Anima characters who can apply frequent elemental hits. Because the burst scales off recent damage, it is best used mid-combo rather than as an opener.
Scorch triggers when Incantation and Chaos elements combine on a target. It applies a damage-over-time effect lasting 15 seconds. Scorch is the foundation of Incantation-heavy team compositions and feeds directly into the Discord Trio Reaction when paired with Nova (Chaos + Psyche).

|---|---|
Elements | Incantation + Chaos |
Effect | Damage over time for 15 seconds |
Duration | 15 seconds |
Enhancement (Baicang) | Generates a second Scorch stack when applying a Power Word to a Scorch-affected enemy |
Enhancement (Sakiri) | Increases all DoT damage on the target by 25% per active DoT type (max 100%) |
Enhancement (Adler) | Applies a random debuff alongside Scorch: -20% ATK, -10% Esper Res, or +10% Break Efficiency |
All three Incantation characters enhance Scorch through their Esper Cycle Passives. These passives remain active even while the character is off-field, so simply including an Incantation Esper on the team strengthens any Scorch application from the active character.
Incantation contributes to the Discord Trio Reaction through its involvement in the Scorch Duo Reaction. Trio Reactions require two overlapping Duo Reactions on a single target and deliver powerful effects that can turn the tide of difficult encounters.
Discord activates when a target is simultaneously affected by both Scorch (Incantation + Chaos) and Nova (Chaos + Psyche). It reduces a portion of the enemy's Break meter, making it significantly easier to stagger and break tough opponents. Because Chaos is the shared element between the two Duo Reactions, a team running Incantation, Chaos, and Psyche can consistently trigger Discord for layered offensive pressure: Scorch provides ongoing DoT, Nova delivers delayed burst, and Discord chips away at the Break bar.

Incantation fits into multiple team compositions depending on whether you want to focus on DoT stacking, Hexed burst, or Discord Break pressure. The element's greatest strength is its passive flexibility: all three Incantation Espers enhance Scorch from the back line, so even a single Incantation slot boosts the entire team's sustained damage output.
This is the premier three-element combination for Incantation teams. The Chaos character triggers Scorch with the Incantation teammate and Nova with the Psyche teammate. When both Duo Reactions overlap, Discord fires and chunks the Break meter. Baicang or Sakiri fill the Incantation slot, a Chaos DPS handles the pivot role, and a Psyche support rounds out the trio. The fourth slot can be a second Incantation character for more DoT stacking or a healer for survivability.
For encounters where Break meter is less important, pairing Incantation with Anima characters enables Hexed, which converts accumulated elemental damage into a single large burst. This approach rewards aggressive play and rapid element application. Sakiri's DoT amplification helps inflate the damage pool that Hexed draws from, making her a strong pick in this composition.
Running two Incantation characters (for example, Baicang and Sakiri) lets you double-dip on Scorch enhancement passives. Baicang adds extra Scorch stacks while Sakiri amplifies all DoT damage. Pair them with a Chaos character to generate Scorch triggers and a flexible fourth slot. This setup excels in longer fights against bosses with large HP pools.
