Expanded with confirmed trust mechanics and housing integration
The Companion System in Neverness to Everness allows players to build meaningful relationships with characters through trust and bonding mechanics. As you deepen your connection with an Esper, new interactions and possibilities open up, including the ability to invite bonded characters to live with you in your home. This system ties together social gameplay, the housing system, and the affinity system into a cohesive relationship experience.
Trust is the foundation of the companion system. Each character has a trust level that increases as you interact with them over time. Building trust is not instant; it requires consistent effort through regular interactions and activities together. The pace encourages players to invest time in the characters they care about most rather than trying to max everyone simultaneously.
Once trust reaches a sufficient threshold, previously locked interactions become available. The system rewards patience and repeated engagement, giving players a sense of gradual progression that mirrors how real relationships develop.
One of the most significant milestones in the companion system is inviting a bonded character to live with you. This requires purchasing a property through the City Tycoon system first, as characters need a physical space to move into. Once you own a home (whether an apartment, house, or mansion), characters with high enough trust can be invited to share the space.
Having a companion living in your home adds life to the housing experience. Characters occupy the space, interacting with the environment and responding to your presence. This transforms properties from purely decorative spaces into shared living areas with personality.
The companion system includes various ways to engage with characters beyond combat. First-person perspective interactions were added as a life-sim element, including hand-holding sequences that bring a personal touch to the bonding experience. These moments are optional but add depth for players who enjoy the social side of the game.
Interactions span a range of activities. Spending time with characters in Hethereau strengthens bonds naturally, and specific actions or choices during conversations can influence how quickly trust grows.
System | Relationship to Companion System |
|---|---|
Provides the physical space where bonded characters live | |

Focus on building trust with one or two characters at a time for faster results rather than spreading attention across the entire roster.
Purchase a property through City Tycoon early if you want to start inviting companions home as soon as their trust is high enough.
Check in with bonded characters regularly. Consistent interaction is more effective than sporadic bursts of attention.
The first-person interactions are optional but offer unique dialogue and moments you will not see through normal gameplay.
