Overview
The companion system in Neverness to Everness allows players to build bonds with their playable characters (Espers) through interactions both in combat and during daily life. As bond levels increase, new interactions and activities become available, deepening the player's connection with their team members.
Affinity Levels
Each character has an affinity meter that tracks the strength of their bond with the player. Affinity increases through combat participation, gift-giving, conversation, and completing character-specific side quests. Higher affinity unlocks additional dialogue, backstory reveals, and interaction options.
Apartment Interactions
Characters with sufficient affinity can be invited to the player's home. Once inside, the player can interact with them in various ways depending on where the character is standing or sitting:
Sitting together: Ask a companion to sit in specific locations around the apartment.
Hand-holding: Hold the companion's hand and walk together through the apartment and nearby city streets. A first-person perspective option is available for this interaction.
Character-specific activities: Each character has unique interactions. For example, players can challenge Mint to Rock-Paper-Scissors or rub behind her ears when she is sitting.
City Companions
At higher affinity levels, characters can accompany the player as they walk through Hethereau. The companion follows the player around and can participate in hand-holding walks through the city streets. This feature adds a social dimension to exploration and makes the city feel more personal and alive.

New dialogue options and text message conversations
Cosmetic interactions and poses for the apartment
Character-specific voice lines and idle animations
Tips
Raising bond levels with characters who are in your active combat team is the most natural way to increase affinity.
Furnishing your apartment with more items creates additional interaction spots for companions.
Character companions in the city occasionally share lore hints and side quest leads through their dialogue.
