As a Horrens Animon, Salabel is connected to fear, both feeling and inflicting it, along with curiosity, an attribute typically shown in purple. Its Demon typing ties it to dark and fiendish concepts.
Salabel pairs the Demon type with the Horrens attribute, which the developers tie to fear and curiosity. The Horrens trait, when activated, can bypass an opponent's resistance and make the next attack super-effective, at the cost of extra SP on top of the move's normal cost.
That trait makes Salabel a useful pick for players who like cracking open the per-species weakness puzzles that replace a global type chart in this game. Like the other starters, its stage-three final evolution differs between the Logos and Mythos paths even though stage two (Vilender) is shared.
Salabel evolves into Vilender, which keeps the Demon type and the Horrens attribute. The region you align with, Mythos or Logos, can also shape its final evolution. Stage-3 evolution names have not been confirmed before launch and are best discovered in-game.
Picking Salabel gives your early team a Demon type and the Horrens attribute. As with all starters, your choice mainly shapes which matchups feel easy at the start; you will round out your roster quickly through catching and Trading. For a side-by-side look at every option, see Starter Animon.
